Wyze Lock - Trash Mode

I setup my Wyze Lock yesterday evening. So far, everything works perfectly (even auto unlock), except trash mode. I have submitted logs through the app. However, I thought I’d check here as well, in case it’s user error. Is this a known issue that others are having as well?

Thanks!

I’m not familiar with trash mode could you explain that to me. I’m on iOS and I don’t have trash mode so I’m curious to know what you’re talking about.

I’m on Android 9.

Trash Mode is a toggle button within the Auto Lock menu of the Wyze app. When toggled on, theoretically you can unlock, lock, and unlock the deadbolt by hand within 3 seconds time, and it disables the auto lock feature when you go outside. It’s for taking the trash out, or other situations where you don’t want the door to lock behind you. Essentially, it’s a 1x bypass of the auto lock feature.

Interesting are you on a beta app or on the production app. I’m on a beta app on iOS and it does not have that. For me no longer than it takes the trash out just leave the door open for a couple minutes. But that’s just me

I’m using the production app, or should be. I’ve never knowingly switched to a beta app.

Just checked: v2.8.24

Gotcha well that’s pretty interesting. To me it’s more work to engage trash mode then to just leave the door open a couple seconds but I know there’s been people that have been locked out taking out their trash so maybe they’re trying to figure out away to help them out.

I figured it out, I think. Not sure if this is how it’s supposed to work, but here’s how it’s working CONSISTENTLY for me…

Do the following by hand, from a locked state:
Unlock, lock, unlock, lock, unlock

-Wyze lock does a triple beep to indicate trash mode enabled.
-App indicates “Open to trash mode” in lock event history.

Do the following by hand, from an unlocked state:
Lock, unlock, lock, unlock, lock, unlock

-Wyze lock does a triple beep to indicate trash mode enabled.
-App indicates “Open to trash mode” in lock event history.

It’s not exactly working how it’s started within the app, but it is working. Hopefully an update makes this feature a little less cantankerous.

Thanks!

Ya it takes longer to do that correctly than to run to the curb. :joy:

This feature is frustrating, I can’t get it to work at all. I tried your work around and got no love from my Wyze Lock.
Any other suggestions?
Thanks!

Is trash mode only on Android? I’m on the beta app v2.9.20 for iOS and don’t have Trash Mode as an option. If Wyze can get it working consistently it would be a great option to have.

Wyze acknowledged my support case and indicated an update is in the works.

Since my initial finings, Trash Mode seems to take even more toggling from unlock to lock to unlock, etc. Now, I just keep turning back and forth until I hear the triple beep, then finish on unlock so I can open the door to step outside. So maybe try that, but don’t stress it if that doesn’t work since there is a known issue.

I agree, it’s a great feature with many more uses than just taking out the trash. I’m constantly walking out guests, working in the yard, etc. It’s nice to be able to step out with only a moment’s notice, and not have to fetch my keys or phone. I don’t know if the feature will be available for iOS as well, sorry.

It’s on IOS. I got a second lock yesterday with it. The firmware is different from my EA lock.

Anyone know how to upgrade the EA lock firmware 2.111.0 to 2.113.0 ?

I am a beta tester for Android. I have the toggle for Trash Mode, I’ve turned it on but it doesn’t work. It’s a known issue so I guess they’re working on it.

I would also like to see an auto lock delay somewhere between immediate and 1 minute. I think a 5 to 10 second delay would be perfect.

I’ve been looking for this! Your solution worked the first time, thank you!

I opened a ticket with Wyze about trash mode not working and they advised to wait 1 1/2 second between unlock-lock-unlock but I have noticed that you need to wait at least 6-8 seconds between each step to get into trash mode, which is not practical when you are going out for thirty seconds anyway. Hopefully Wyze will improve this in next release

Yes. This method works for me every time. I just keep locking and unlocking until I hear the 3 beeps, which some time takes 5 to 10 iterations, then leave it in the unlock position and it won’t auto lock until the door is opened and closed twice.

The question remains. How do we get to 2.1.13.0?
Most of us from EA have 2.1.11.0.

Yes, my locks and gateways are at different firmware levels with no documented method of updating them. I am interested as well.

I’ve the latest lock firmware, but Trash Mode works no better. If it engages 1 of 10 times, I consider myself lucky.
