Wyze Home Monitoring: Self Monitored Mode ASAP

I guess if you want to use Test Mode for self monitoring, you need to pay $100/yr. Not something I plan to do. I ran it that way for a year and then decided it wasn’t worth it, so I started looking for alternatives since Wyze will NEVER make it available. It doesn’t enhance revenue.

Exactly, so just make a paid “self hosted” mode that removes the restrictions of Test Mode and just OMITS the professional monitoring. I really don’t see why Wyze won’t implement this.

Please add self monitoring.

In the mean time allow me to have a subscription from Australia, and just call my mobile instead of the police.

I bought this because I really like the Wyze brand, But now find I can’t use the keypad or alarm at all, as I can’t subscribe from Australia and you can’t use it without a subscription.

Assuming many know this already, but for those looking for free self monitoring, check out the new ROKU security system. It’s Wyze products sold via ROKU, and promotes the free self monitoring feature. Unfortunately no water sensors, but maybe they’ll add them in the future.

Don’t waste your time or your breath. Wyze will never offer self monitoring. Spend your money elsewhere for this, I have. Gave up long ago.

I did not know ROKU used Wyze devices. Do you know if I can use my Wyze Home Security hun with ROKU? Would I need to flesh the Firmware or something? Or just rest and join to the RoKU app instead of Wyze app?

Wow, that is really interesting about ROKU. And there site says it can be self monitored. It would be great if we could either hook our hardware to the ROKU app, or flash the WYZE hardware to ROKU,

Another note: I am not sure if this is true for everyone, but we are not paying for monitoring and our subscription ended, BUT we still have use of the alarm. The system still is still running it’s schedule to arm at 5pm every day. Although I guess there is no way to edit the schedule, but at least it still works

The answer is no. They aren’t the same. Different firmware, different apps, totally incompatible.

I have not yet seen details on what Roku is calling “self-monitoring” though. It doesn’t necessarily mean they will let you use the monitoring tab and arm/disarm the system and siren. It may just be that they are saying you can set up your own notifications to tell you when a door opens or closes, and calling that self monitoring. All of that is already possible with Wyze too. We need someone who has Roku but isn’t paying for the subscription to tell us the differences. I may go ask in the Roku subreddit or something. I tried to find more info on the difference in Roku’s website, but it was vague and unclear what was included without the subscription, so I suspect it’s the same as not having the Wyze subscription. But who knows for sure. It would be great to confirm.

That will end eventually. It takes some time before Wyze finally gives up on you and kills your home registration and the HMS functions.

You may be right and it may expire, but my guess is, like others have said, the system just dies in the last know state. The last known state was running with schedules. It has been more than a year and it hasn’t stopped. So it may just run forever like this. I can’t edit or update anything, but it is running as a self monitored alarm.

This help page, along with the others, sure seems to suggest that you have full feature access without the paid monitoring. Wyze just won’t do it.

Further, this also seems to suggest you get full access except for Professional Monitoring by Noonlight and the “panic button.”

Do I need Pro Monitoring to use the Roku Home Monitoring System?

If you plan to self-monitor your home, you don’t need a subscription to use your Roku Home Monitoring System. In self-monitoring mode, you’ll get notifications for entry and motion alerts sent to your phone, and the siren will sound when an alarm is triggered. However, a monitoring agent will not reach out to you or send help if you need it. In the case of a true emergency, you’ll have to contact the authorities yourself.

The benefit of Pro Monitoring powered by Noonlight is the peace of mind knowing that live agents are always on call. If the worst-case scenario happens, a live agent will text you to assess the situation and request emergency assistance on your behalf. If you don’t answer the text, the agent will send emergency assistance straight to your location.

This “wishlist” item is over 2 years old and Wyze could have very easily acted on it. Yet they clearly refuse to do so.

I would add that Wyze has been working closely with Roku on their hardware and app so I suggest they (Wyze) could add this feature very easily to their products.

Just reading other Roku info and this one seems a deal killer. Maybe future updates will change.

Did I read this right?

Not clear to what you refer.

My guess is Wyze has an exclusive contract with their current monitoring provider which leaves no room for people like us abroad to have another solution. Tech wise it is simple to do but they don’t. So I can’t conclude otherwise.

Off topic:

Did I mention the powerbricks with the cams are weak? Already replaced 4 last week for a friend of mine. Started zooming, cams go on and off.

Roku uses NoonLight as well for the service.

This section in particular about seeing a video from the SD card…,

How to view event recordings

You can find your event recordings on the Roku Smart Home app in the Events tab. You must purchase a smart home subscription to view event video recordings saved to the cloud. If you do not have a subscription, you can only view a still image of the event. On the Events screen, tap an event to watch the video or view the image. If you want to view recordings saved to a micro SD card, you need to remove the micro SD card from the camera and watch it on your computer.

Now I see what you mean. Definitely a step backwards. Surprised by this since the Wyze cameras let you view it without having to remove the SD cards.

Ok there you go. We will never get the freedom to pick another provider. Such a shame. Even in the small country I live we have providers that could handle monitoring based on a subscription based model or per day when you only need it when on holiday.
