Wyze & CES

Has Wyze ever attended CES? It seems like a good place to pick up customers / distributors?
I am just reviewing Lifehackster 's initial synopsis of Cams at CES. Some impressive capability. Some similar to Wyze AI, etc. and as well as some very interesting other capabilities.

Wyze and Eufy were not at CES 2025. AI was the big buzzword at CES this year.

They have, but I don’t know of any recent booths out there.

It was actually this interview from CES in 2019 that got me hooked on Wyze, unfortunately, the max drive never became a thing but I stayed with the ecosystem.

Wyze has been at CES sometimes in the past.

I’m surprised they didn’t go this year. there are a ton of things they could’ve talked about that they are coming out with:

  • Cam Unlimited Pro that is on public webpages and that they’ve been working on and teasing about all year, even if they only talk about the things publicly listed on their website there:
    • AI video search
    • Descriptive Alerts
    • They could demo some other already released things like their cool multi-camera timeline, even the Animated Notifications are cool, Home Summary, My Day,
  • I’m sure they could talk about some new products they’re working on. Basically all companies are always working on new products…though I guess CES is mostly for showcasing prototypes of cutting edge innovation and not necessarily anything new.

I wish they would create a homebase option with local edge AI (maybe RTSP conversion) and get around to Home Assistant integration. Now that would be an announcement! I don’t think the Home Base will ever happen though since it might reduce Cam Plus subscriptions. Home Assistant is possible within a year or 2 after the Matter Camera libraries launch, but extremely unlikely before that.

Good round up. It’s like the year of the camera.

No Wyze at CES? Even RadioShack (or its reincarnation) is there.

That’s funny. I think there might be only 3 stores left.

I wore my Radio Shack shirt grocery shopping last week.

Yeah, apparently some company in El Salvador bought the franchise rights for the Caribbean back in the late 90’s, and then when it collapsed, they acquired the remaining IP rights. The old Radioshack is dead, this is just the necromanced zombie reincarnation…in the sense the real one went bankrupt (died) but technically this company had some legit rights and bought out the rest when it collapsed…so it does have SOME of the old DNA, but it’s also not the same…just like a zombie.
:zombie:

But if they bring back more affordable tech, all the more power to them. I miss RadioShack.

At least one in TN.

30 left.

3 in Columbus OH.

There are two Radio Shacks south and north of where I live. You just need to look outside your area. (One is permanently closed, so there were 3 recently.)

Time to join the battery of the month club.

After twenty years after seeing one in Virginia, we finally got a Micro Center. I do miss CompUSA.

I am still looking for Chi Chi’s, the Mexican restaurant.

I believe we have the last Royal Castle south of where I live.

They heard your wish.

Wow! That is fantastic. Been to many Chi Chi’s across the country. Their Margaritas :tropical_drink: were great.

Any one remember having a Radio Shack Battery Club card?

Speaking of the last of something, the last BlockBuster Video is in central Oregon. Wait, people still go to a store to get a video?

Hopefully at least some of Wyze attended themselves and maybe had a suite to make some connections, etc…

As mentioned here, there appears to have been so many variations on using AI with cams and perhaps home automation…

Radio Shack … that brings back memories & some googling…
I picked up my first X10 HOME automation motion sensors, plug switches, controllers from RADIO SHACK in early 1990s
and then my first “ActiveHome” automation software from X10.com (Seattle area 1990s). I had a LOT of X10 gear. My first cams were also from X10 many years ago.
Radio Shack opened their first Canadian store in 1970s, then became “The Source” and now “Best Buy Express” here in Oct 2024.

Are they affiliated with BestBuy?

And from wiki … “ The Source began as the Canadian branch of Radio Shack (later “RadioShack”). The first Radio Shack store in Canada was opened on April 20, 1970, in … Ontario.”

Yes. I didn’t drive then so I had to beg Mom to drive me there.

Bought my first x10 base at Sears (1983-84) on the reduced-price table. I still have a newer Radio Shack X10 clock base. (Need to change battery.)

It is sitting next to my lava lamp.

In my area, I miss Circuit City, Fry’s Electronics and Incredible Universe (which had a connection to the Tandy Corp CEO). Check out this list.
