Based on feedback, I have simplified this note {1/11/2025}:
If you are getting a “no video is available” type message when attempting to playback, re-SYNC your camera. ALL of my cameras began recording with a date in the year 2036, which the software could not playback (it hadn’t occurred yet).
I have been battling this issue for a while and it has occurred on ALL versions of Wyze cameras, post-installation and set-up. I figured it would clear itself up but it didn’t. Taking a look at the video files on my computer, the folders and files were timestamped in the year 2036.
Not sure why it happened, but as I said I have been battling this off and on for a while.
If you are seeing the “no video is available” my recommendation is to double check the files on the SD card for the data timestamp and/or re-SYNC the camera(s). To re-SYNC, go to Settings, Advanced Settings, and click on SYNC. Hopefully, it will work for you too.
So far, after re-SYNCing my cameras are now creating 2025 files even after router and network reboots…
Some routers intercept NTP requests and reply with their own date and time. If this happened on multiple cams, I would suspect something like that having happened where your router or possibly an upstream NTP server had some glitch. Unlikely to be an NTP server as those have about a dozen measures in them to prevent them from ever responding even 1 millisecond inaccurate much less 11 years.
I would format the cards after syncing the time so there aren’t “orphaned” video files confusing things.
Appreciate the feedback. Router reboot does not seem to affect the timestamp (at least not yet)…so I am not sure why this has occurred. No other device shows this anomaly so I am just glad I know how to fix it.
Thanks for the note about reformatting the SD card…good point.
Thanks. In my case, specifically, it was the timestamps that prevented the videos stored on the SD card from being “found” when I attempt playback. It’s hard to playback something that has not happened yet .
After reformatting the card, synch the time manually again and see if that sets it correctly.
With PCs, if an NTP server attempts to adjust the time by more than a certain amount they’ll refuse it until you try several times (to avoid a glitch causing something like that) so I wonder if the cams are similar, may need a clean card and several synchs to get it back to normal.
