Wyze camera settings change on its own

Wyze outdoor camera’s cooldown setting keeps changing automatically. When set to “no cooldown,” it changes to 1-minute cooldown itself regularly. Very irritating and its among many failures of wyze cameras. SO FREAKING IRRITATING

Seems to be a known issue

Possibly to help extend the battery life of the cam, or possibly a bug.

The firmware update of 6 November 2023 screwed up the cooldown setting on the WCO. And no it will never be fixed.

I thought of your previous comments on this issue immediately when I began reading this topic. I appreciate your chiming in here. :+1:

Can we flash the WCO to the firmware where the cooldown setting isn’t disabled by Wyze?

I’ve eight WCO’s that are used for recording wildlife on my property, The Coyotes and Rats didn’t get the memo that they need to pause movement for 1 minute to accommodate the forced cooldown on my cameras

The Help Center describes a process for doing this:

The Release Notes & Firmware page has links to the previous firmware, dated 4 January 2023, for Cam Outdoor v1 & v2. I don’t have either of those models, though, and I’ve never tried flashing backward to an older firmware version. :man_shrugging:

@crease covered it, but I will mention/warn that the WCO you need to be VERY careful with. Factory resetting the cam can permanently brick it if not done properly, so I’d be afraid the manual firmware could be a risk too.

I believe as long as it is active in the app and connected to the base station, it is fine, so you’re probably good, just use caution.

Hopefully you can get those BCPs working, I’m guessing they’ll replace the WCOs?

These WCO’s are out of warranty,

I seriously doubt that Wyze is going to be replacing any WCO v1s.

It looks like Wyze has abandoned the WCO v1 (and v2?) and crippled them, and just wishes we’d all toss our still working camera’s in the trash and buy the new Web Cam Pro’s… (that don’t have Time Lapse feature that I have used in the past).

I realize all tech becomes obsolete eventually, but, My WCO’s still serve the purpose for which I bought them for (if they weren’t forced into this one minute ‘cooldown’.

No I just meant I was guessing the BCPs you bought were to replace the WCOs. I know they’re definitely not in warranty at this point.
