Wyze Cam Pan v3 - connection issues

So I have now purchased two pan v3 cameras, the first one after about a month only showed color in a purple hue. Followed everything support told me and ended up chalking it up to it just being a lemon. So I bought another, and everything was good for a couple weeks and now I must reboot it once a day for the app or my browser to connect. Not only that but the waypoints are way off…even after setting them over and over. At least the last camera worked correctly. I think it’s a software bug but after a couple updates not fixing it…i’m thinking of jumping ship. Wyze started making all these other products and I think have lost focus on what it started with which is the best camera for the money. Would love to hear if anyone else has experienced similar issues.

No issues with my eight cams consisting of v2, v3 and v4. So far I haven’t ventured into pan or OG cams. Been using Wyze since 2019. For the price, they meet my needs. Of course opinions vary as you look around the forum.

Yeah, I have 6 of the standard v3s and they are all great, it’s only the pan cam that i have issues with. I have owned the v1 and v3, issues with all.

Bummer. Posts like these about the pan cams hold me back from buying one, even though I have been told they work great by others. Hopefully, some one with good knowledge will chime in.

Except for its poor WiFi, the pan cam V3 is actually amazing. It covers more area than the other Wyze cameras. I already posted a good solution elsewhere. Use a wireless repeater that plugs into an outlet close to the camera.

Now if Wyze could add more rule actions like “Switch to way point #x”, it could be even more useful.

Was this maybe a stuck IR filter issue? Did you try putting a magnet next to the camera body to see if that had any effect?

Some of the connection issues are supposed to have been resolved with firmware updates, but after many users reporting the loss of notifications from their Video Doorbell v2s following firmware updates earlier this year, I’m wary of new firmware versions from Wyze until I read about the experiences of others here.

If you poke around in the Forum, you’ll find that some Cam Pan v3 users use a Schedule Automation to periodically reset the position (essentially automating the steps you would take if you tapped into the camera’s :gear: Settings ➜ Advanced Settings ➜ Motor Controls ➜ Reset Position ➜ Reset) and reboot their cameras. This is supposed to account for the Waypoint drift issue and presumably get a fresh Wi-Fi connection after the camera reboots. I used to have my Cam Pan v3s do this nightly but then changed to weekly after reading some of @dave27’s posts, and that seems to be working well for my purposes.

I agree with @p2788deal about the Automations Actions, too. I know the one mentioned above has been requested in a Wishlist, and I’m trying be optimistic that Wyze is actually doing some work on Automations…besides just renaming it from “Rules”.

Welcome to the Forum, @mahog50!

Odd, my Panv3s have great wifi, but could also be related to my router which has a very good 2.4ghz signal and I’ve chosen the cleanest channel in my area, tuned other settings, etc. I have a Panv3 where even my phone with much better wifi chipset has trouble maintaining a connection. It drops from time to time but pretty rare.

The 3 I have were purchased at different times (one months after the other two and came with the new style mount) so I don’t think it is anything to do with batches or revisions, but I guess that is possible.

I don’t know if you’ve seen my previous posts on this. I put up a V3 side by side with that pan cam V3 (up on the eaves) and it didn’t need any help from a repeater.

Indeed, I have a V3 even farther out without connection issues. I have a good Asus gaming mesh router.

I had to join this forum to report my experiences. I have all but given up trying to salvage this camera.

I have had this issue (everything has a bright pink hue on color mode) with my Wyze Cam Pan v3 since I bought it last year. I have read on the forums that its possibly the IR filter getting stuck. Welp, I’ve tried EVERYTHING with a decently powerful magnet (besides using one so big that I’m uncomfortable putting it near electronic equiptment) and placed it (then I would slide it) on every conceivable side of the camera and every direction, to no avail.

The only thing that ever did anything was if I slid the magnet up or down directly in front of the camera lens. And it would make a audible click noise, but it would only make the IR filter look worse. (i.e. More pink) – I could never get rid of the pink hue in color mode, no matter what I did.

I have never encountered anything similar in any other camera brands besides on my Wyze Cam Pan v3. Needless to say, I am very disappointed. Hence why I did not renew my 1 year subscription this summer, and won’t be buying any more Wyze products in the future.

Did the problem appear during the warranty period? If it did, I’d do very simple troubleshooting and if there’s no resolution, I’d return.

I had a V3 exhibit similar display artifacts. I sent Wyze a screen grab and they replaced the camera.

Why not just exchange it if it did it since new? Defective items happen from time to time…

Was it during the warranty period? I don’t remember tbh. I just know it still has the pink hue (even right now, i just checked) and I don’t care anymore to get a replacement. I’ve moved on to a better brand of camera equipment. I just wanted to share my experience with the Wyze Cam Pan v3.

You previously said “since I bought it” so it was definitely in the warranty period. You of course have the option to move on to another brand, and sounds like you have. But it is weird to get angry with Wyze if you accepted a defective item and didn’t exchange it. Could have gotten roughed up in shipping, could have been a defect from the factory, but either way they’ll swap it free.

Eh, it’s worth a shot I guess. I’ll have to reach out to customer service to see if they’ll ship me a new one. But if they don’t, like you said, I’m kinda just over it.

Also, after this new firmware upgrade, I notice that any moving objects have a real blurriness to it (that was never there prior to the firmware update)

Cars and people’s faces have a fuzzy, blurry quality to them. Even if trees sway in the breeze I can see a noticable blurry effect in the image. I know for a fact this didn’t start until I did the recent FW update, so I’m worried even if I go through the trouble of getting a replacement, the FW itself will still cause this.

FWIW, I’ll report back with what happens in the upcoming weeks with my situation. Thanks for your replies.

Every one of these cams will have some motion ghosting due to the high compression ratio but it is definitely not highly noticeable on my Pan v3s even with the latest firmware (no more or less than before). The regular v3 was pretty bad which is why I went with OGs for my stationery cameras.

I’m guessing whatever is causing the pink hue is also confusing the image sensor and leading to more blur, but just a guess.

I don’t think it’s IR filter causing the blurriness, because i forgot to mention that there are very short windows of time where the pink hue is not there. (Unfortunately, the pink is visible about 95% of the time) – It may show up depending on where the sun is located in the sky (because I have it facing outside towards my driveway) but even if I turn the camera around and face it indoors, the pink still shows up. And the blurriness still happens regardless if the pink hue is visible or not. I’m positive it wasn’t there before the updates.

I bought the Wyze Cam Pan v3 because I wanted a camera that could record to a MicroSD card 24/7 without needing a subscription service. And the price point for the Wyze motion camera is still great. Under $40 for a decent quality camera is a good deal in my book.

I realized after purchasing it though that I could just as easily be happy with a stationary camera without the ability to move via the app. And I just looked at the Wyze Cam v4 ($35.98 before tax USD) and it seems like it’d be a better option. I just hope if i buy it, it won’t be plagued with the same issues as the Wyze Pan Cam v3 (like the pink hue and blurriness during movement) – if it is, I’ll be sure to return it during the corresponding window of time.

If I buy it, I’ll gladly reply here and let everyone know how it goes in the forum. Thanks again for all your help.
