Hello, I have two Wyze Cam OG cameras that record a thump sound, similar to tapping the flesh part of one’s finger on hard wood, at random points of time, but not at the same time. This sound is different from the metallic clack (not click) of the relay when the camera switches on/off Night Vision mode. This sound occurs anywhere from once every couple of days to once a day.
The cameras are in the same room pointing in different directions and are on the same electrical circuit.
I was concerned that this might be a side effect of a voltage spike, but the thump sound does not occur on both cameras that the same time.
Has anyone else experienced this? Do you know what is causing this?
My cameras:
Wyze Cam OG Telephoto 3x
Firmware v1.0.80
Possibly normal house creaks with temperature changes, or maybe a radiator near each camera making a sound as it warms up/cools off?
The microphones aren’t terribly sensitive so they wouldn’t both necessarily record the same occurrence, it would be separate ones that happen near each camera.
I have 4 OGs and an OG Tel running same firmware as you, never heard anything like that.
For a few years I had a cam V3 in my garage. Never had a sound alarm. Recently had to retire the V3 and replaced with an OG. Now I’m getting multiple sound alarms a day. I’ve been turning down the Sound Sensitivity. Not there yet.
What is triggering the alarm?
Neighbor riding his/her Harley down the street.
The sprinklers coming on (pipes next to garage).
And the nasty one - the water heater. It gurgles, makes bubbly noises, while it heats up.
IMO the OG mic is considerably more sensitive than my old V3.
@Adrian123, see if you can turn down the Sound Sensitivity. Hopefully you can find a balance between your use case and the thumping noise.
Yeah I should say, they’re perfectly sensitive but at pretty short distances, probably something to do with the tiny hole, sound waves from further away are too spread out or something. Too early to try and think about physics. Or maybe it is just where I have mine mounted. It is good for privacy reasons, I don’t want to hear neighbors talking etc.
I know at least one of the video birdfeeders (not wyze) delayed enabling the microphone until they could ensure it only picked up bird noises very close to it and not conversations from further away for privacy reasons, not sure if that was some sort of frequency range filter they put on or a form of “AI” filtering.
The first thing that comes to mind when tapping my finger on wood is a radiator heating up/cooling off. Even though it is metal it is more of a dull thud type sound. But the various sounds my house makes in the morning when the sun hits it might fit the bill too.
Of course a Harley will set off even the most insensitive or filtered mic.
