I think that’s an easy point to miss. Every once in a while, I stop and remind myself of how incredible it is that I can talk to a computer and have it do things like turn on lights, answer my questions, and put things on my calendar. As frustrating as the technology can be sometimes, I’m still amazed when I think about how easy it is (in many cases) for end users to get their smart gadgets to “talk” to one another these days.

Captain Kirk needed a separate tri-corder and communicator. My smart phone is literally capable of doing everything both of those fictitious gadgets could do.
Very true, however we have not achieved travel speed of Warp 9 yet.

And transporters and replicators have yet to make the scene, but tri-corders and communicators are old tech!
