Wyze bulbs (2019) won't pair

Great news!
The next time the battery goes out in the motion sensor that turns on a Wyze Bulb in my closet, I am swapping the bulb out with a new radar bulb that turns on when it senses motion (built into the bulb).
Every time AWS hiccups, Wyze rules either stop working, or are incredibly lagged.
Even when they work sometimes it takes up to 4 seconds for a bulb to engage via a rule.

UPDATE:
I finally got around to swapping out my rule triggered Wyze bulbs (via Wyze V1 Motion Sensors) for radar light bulbs. They work great, but are VERY sensitive. I have them in a dark closet and a dark pantry. If I walk by the OUTSIDE of the door the lights turn on. I also bought some Motion bulbs to try next, but the radar ones are working fine, just ultra-sensitive. This installation is MUCH easier to troubleshoot!

It is March 2, 2025. I have a brand new unopened 4 pack of the 2019 White Bulbs and have tried to pair 2 lamps many times in the last week. I have gone through all the steps found on here and youtube channels. One lamp is nearly on top of the modem. They will not pair!

Can you get a refund? Wyze offers a 3-year warranty.

I haven’t heard of any success fixing the 2019 bulbs.

Still an issue in 2025. Is wyze being greedy and wants us to buy new bulbs?

Could be. I think it has more to do with not supporting old bulbs. The 2019 bulb guy probably retired and no one took up his responsibilities.

But isn’t it the firmware that’s the issue? Then someone was working on it and deliberately bricked it. How can we roll back the firmware if it won’t connect? I was able to add two of these bulbs, but the app cannot control them, and soon after, they start blinking again.

In my case, I don’t believe it was firmware.

After one bulb dropped off the network, I didn’t use either bulb for sometime. Maybe a year later, I decided to check on the bulbs due to various forum posts.

Since then I got a new phone and tried to add the bulbs back into my network. No such luck. I believe the process of adding bulbs to the network is the problem. If they work fine on the network, never remove them.

After finding my receipt, I noticed how little I paid for the bulbs on sale. I lost my desire to complain and moved on.

I bought two Kasa bulbs to be used in my theater room. I found they were voice operated. Fell in love  and forgot about Wyze bulbs.

A couple weeks, later I was gifted a pair of the new Wyze bulbs. They work great and connect to the network without issue. I placed those around the house and use a schedule. No issues so far.

It’s definitely something with the newer version of the app that’s preventing adding the 2019 bulb. I have 1 bulbs working fine yesterday with the lastest app and I wanted to add another 1 that I had laying around, but it keeps failing when trying to connect the wifi. Stupid me wanted to try disconnect the working 1 and reconnect to see if it’s the bulb that’s the issue because I haven’t used in a long time. After I disconnected the working bulb, now I can’t reconnect it. It’s definitely wyze doing something shady with the new version of the app to prevent people using the 2019 bulbs so people have to buy new ones. I have several cameras and lights from wyze but I’ll never buy anything from this company again.

Maybe. I tried the 2.x and the 3.x app and had the same issue.

Welcome to the forum.

NIce you posted once on the way out. Be safe out there.

Today I had a dozen older 2019 bulbs go dead after I took my router down for an hour or so. Once the router came up the bulbs all showed to be offline. I could not get them back online at all.

Funny thing, these bulbs all were on my network, as I could ping them.

I tried resetting three of the bulbs and setting them back up in the app. I couldnt even do that. I used different phones and different networks, but they would not get past the connecting option in the app.

So I broke out an old version of the Wyze app ( 2.40.0.190) and installed it on my phone. As soon as I did that, all of the bulbs I hadnt touched all came back online.

I went to another phone that had the latest WYZE app on it, and they were all now working on this one as well.

I Then tried adding the three bulbs I couldnt add before. With an attempt or two, I was able to add these three bulbs to the Wyze app.

Alas all is not well, as you can trigger the app on and off, but it has little effect on the bulb. The app sees the bulb as online, but the bulb does not respond to the app.

I deleted the old version of the app, and reinstalled the latest version, and all the bulbs work with the exception of the three I tried to add.

I do wonder if I downgraded the firmware on the bulbs to match the old app, would the app then be able to properly add the bulbs and all would be well in darkland.

I havent a clue as to how to do that, so I will just have to wonder.

i hope this message is of value to others. Do not try to re add the bulbs, just change the app.
Remember, you must use that version. Anything older will not allow you to log into the app, and newer will not give you the results you are looking for.
