Wyze Bulb Color - Smart WiFi bulb with 16 million colors & sleep routines

The bulbs from Yeelight are REALLY good, have beautiful color production and only cost about $10. Hopefully Wyze can beat this. Also, the Yeelight app is a bit difficult to use, but the power available in their “build a scene” function is amazing. You can program the light to do all sorts of things. Hopefully the Wyze bulb will be similar to the Yeelight including the app features.

Where do you get Yeelight bulbs for about $10? I’d be interested.

My need/desire for colored bulb goes beyond just mood (which is important). I like to use my current Sengled colored bulbs to indicate to my family my availability or call status. I work from home and I set a homescreen widget that triggers the colored bulbs to turn RED when I’m on a call and need them to be more mindful of their noise.

In addition, whether it be bulb or strip, I’d like to set some indicator light at our front door for my children’s friends and our neighbors, so they know when they can knock/ring vs. being in a Do Not Disturb state. We have children in the napping stage and our dog freaks out every time someone’s at the door, which wakes up the napping child and truly sucks.

I’ve never thought of using it in that way but that’s a great use of a covered bulb. Good for you for coming up with that idea

Hi friends! Our UX designer @austinbyrd and I have been working on the Wyze color bulb. We’d love to hear from you what would be a great color bulb product for you! If you are willing and available, we’d love to chat with you for ~30 min, and help us understand what kind of smart lighting you want! In addition to having a full color smart bulb it would be GREAT to have the bulb controlled by a remote control as well.

My kids used to have lights in their room that were controlled with a remote. They loved it because they would get in bed and then turn the lights off from bed. In the mornings they liked being able to turn the lights on dim before getting out of bed. Yes, this could be done with a phone but

  1. My kids don’t have phones.

  2. It’s much easier to just push a button or flip a switch, rather than turn on a phone, open the app and push a button.

  3. WiFi doesn’t is sketchy on the far end of the house.

  4. Anybody can work the light, not just an authorized person with the app.

  5. There are other rooms in the house (family room, sun room) that would also be enhanced with a remote light.

Good luck and thank you. I’m Looking forward to the full color bulb!

I got to thinking after our conversation why don’t you include a switch cover with lightbulbs and that would eliminate people accidentally flipping switches that are paired to the Wyze bulbs. It couldn’t add much to the cost. And I suppose you could offer it 2 ways one with it included and one with it not included but I wouldn’t think that little piece of plastic that covers the switch would cost that much money

For Rocker switches I went with these

Are you talking about a hard wired switch? I think that makes it too complicated. If a switch will be used it should be a remote like switch that can be moved (not attached to a wall).

Also, you can possible have a different frequency so that each remote could control multiple bulbs.

They do sell converter kits to turn regular lights into a remote controlled light but there is lots of wiring involved.

The other problem without having a remote is thus. How do I switch a light on if I just walk into a room and dont have my phone, or dont want the hassle of using my phone to turn light on? The remote could have a harness or case that is fixed to the wall so the remote has a place to be stored. But it should. E easily removed from the case so I can carry it with me across the room if need be.

I said switch cover. During our conversation they said that people were accidentally flipping switches and messing up scenes so I said include a switch cover not a switch. Again not a switch but I switch cover if you click on the link that I provided you will see what I’m talking about

I like that idea. They usually call them “switch guards,” since “switch cover” is already the bigger piece of plastic that covers the electrical box.

The cheapest I can seem to find them online is usually around $2, and that’s only if you buy a multi-pack. It seems like they’re somewhat expensive for what they are – just a small piece of plastic. If Wyze included them in the package with bulbs, the added cost would be pretty negligible. Ideally it would include one for both types of common US switches. Clear plastic would be better than white, because then people could use them with all kinds of covers.

There are several designs that let you use the switch if you need to, but prevent you from accidentally turning them on or off. Those are the best kind, in my opinion. Like these:

I saw the clear ones but I thought the white would blend better

Yeah. I just figure if they were to include something in a mass-market package, clear would be preferable. Some people have almond-color. I even have a black chalkboard wall that has a black switch on it.

Makes sense. Lol

Please don’t add switch guards to the packaging it will only drove cost up and it is not a universally needed solution.

Do you know how many people have accidentally hit the switch that controls lights? Just about everyone here. That’s why so many have bought guards on their own. Just because everyone does or doesn’t need something shouldn’t dictate if it’s included. You go by majority. A competitive company includes faceplates with all switches. Do I need them? No. Does it effect cost? I’m sure but on a grand scale can’t be much.

I’m sure Wyze could add guards for less than 50 cents. Maybe cheaper. So it’s not going to massive increase the price.

Everyone has different switches, easier to by the ones you need then Wyze including them and jacking up the cost of a budget bulb when they will only be useful to a small % of people.

I disagree with small percentage the number of people. The people that I’ve talked to that have accidentally hit the switches has been quite large. And it’s not going to jack up the price because it’s a small piece of plastic that probably cost pennies to make. We will just end it there. Agree to disagree. Have a great weekend
