Wyze Bulb Camera + Wyze Lamp Socket v2?

Hey there -

Just curious if anyone knows if these two will work together? I fee like, in theory, the lamp socket extension and the USB connector operate independently of one another and this should work, but I’m also an idiot and don’t really know the finer ins-and-outs of these things. Don’t want to create a fire hazard for myself lol.

Two questions immediately come to mind:

  1. How are you defining
  1. What is it you’d hope to accomplish? In other words, what would be your goal by trying to combine these two products?

These products work differently:

  • Bulb Cam gets its power from a standard E26 lamp socket, preferably one that’s always powered on, so that it can provide a camera and light from the same power source with easy installation.
  • Lamp Socket v2 is also powered by an always-on (preferably) standard lamp socket but functions as an accessory to a compatible Wyze Cam. Since it has an increased power output over Lamp Socket v1 (2A vs. 1A), it can power things like Cam v3 Pro and Cam Pan v3 in addition to Cam OG, Cam v3, and Cam v4. As long as the socket it’s connected to has power, the camera powered by the USB port also has power, and the compatible camera is necessary for controlling Lamp Socket v2’s built-in socket (say, for turning a standard bulb on or off).

Note this from the FAQ section of Lamp Socket v2’s product page:

Can I use Wyze Lamp Socket v2 without a Wyze Cam?

No, Wyze Lamp Socket v2 requires a compatible Wyze Cam for initial setup in the Wyze app and most other functions. Features like Automations, Al detection, and controlling the lamp socket in the app require a Wyze Cam. Without a compatible Wyze Cam, you can only use the lamp socket as a USB power source.

If one of the main functions of Lamp Socket v2 (when paired with a compatible Cam) is to control power to Lamp Socket v2’s actual socket, then why would you want to screw a Bulb Cam into that and turn off power to the Bulb Cam and its light? (You might have a reason. I’m just trying to understand what you have in mind.)

If all you need is a

in order to accomplish something like making a Bulb Cam fit a long or tall sconce, then why not just buy a “dumb” socket extender at a hardware or home improvement store?
