I’m about ready to return these. Two nights I’ve had these and each morning I’ve woken up to 30+ notifications of motion detected. Sensitivity is turned all the way down, The Cameras also seem to be ignoring the detection zones which is really annoying.
Any bug, any blowing tree or bush is generating a motion notification.
Controversial Opinion but you have to turn off Motion Detection for anything outside. You need A.I. to sort through video and help determine what it sees. It’s the only way to not get bombarded with so many notifications that they become meaningless. Basically, the boy who cried wolf. You stop paying attention.
Pay for Cam Plus at least and then you can detect vehicles, people, packages, pets.
This is the blog post from Wyze that really gives a great background on fighting with notifications (Introducing the NBD Filter). They are promoting the NBD Filter here but the background on how cameras see motion and whatnot is good info (even if delivered in a very goofy way).
I think anyone with a camera outside has suffered this and tried everything to counter it.
Cam Plus Unlimited introduces the “NBD filter”. It changed EVERYTHING for my Wyze cameras. I have 7 outside. Quiet as a mouse until something actually happens. Descriptive Alerts are next level too.
I have ZERO problems with my Outdoor Cams in the EXACT same locations - I don’t understand why I have to pay a subscription to get useful notifications.
I was just offering my opinion and some information on this issue. I can only say that on my end, no matter the camera (and I have had them all), I need A.I. to make the noise go away and get to the meat of things I need to be alerted to.
Detection zone can be finicky. The green box is awfully close to the edge and it may be just enough to trigger motion. You could try excluding 1 or two boxes right below where the green box was and see if that helps. If not perhaps try a “reset services” or maybe even factory reset the cam and start over, something may not be “taking” properly.
Haven’t seen any other complaints about DZ on that cam but it is fairly new so maybe it just hasn’t been reported yet.
It’s not extending into the zone in this particular frame, but when you watch these videos you often see the green box shrinking and expanding as the target motion moves, so it’s possible that the box was larger and extending into the Detection Zone in an earlier or later portion of the event. I’d consider enlarging the exclusion area (i.e., making more squares grey) to try to give the Detection Zone more of a buffer. You could also slightly reposition the camera itself (manually pan or tilt) if you want to get the grid shifted to a more ideal position for what you want to capture, because those blocks are so large. This trial-and-error tweaking process seems to be one of the trade-offs for not subscribing.
Again, and not to target you, but my Outdoor cameras don’t have this problem and are set up the exact same way.
How do you release a follow on product that somehow performs worse than its predecessor? I’m incredibly disappointed in this. I’ve come to expect so much more from Wyze.
I understand the frustration and—like others here—am just offering potential suggestions to mitigate the problem you’re describing. I can’t speak specifically to your experience with a new product, but one thing that comes to mind is the vast number of complaints with overzealous package detection notifications and other problems that seemed to plague Duo Cam Doorbell shortly after its launch. I believe many of those have largely been remedied over time with firmware updates, and I would expect the same sort of development with Bulb Cam as it matures through more real world use.
