That’s because person detection is a subset of motion detection. The motion event happens first, then the camera checks it to determine whether or not it includes a person. If so, it’s a motion event like the others, it’s just a motion event that’s tagged as a person.
It uploads the video on-the-fly. I was curious about this before the launch, too. I actually didn’t expect it to upload on-the-fly, but I was pleasantly surprised.
Thanks for the reply. But the cool down period is definitely a big problem with person detection. I was able to walk thru my entire house without ever getting a person notification because of it. It sensed the door opening, changes in lighting etc and never flagged anything as more than a motion. This is a problem for me because I only want person notifications because my pets constantly will trigger the general motion detection.
It would be nice if it were more robust. CMC definitely improves this considerably, although it’s still not perfect. If a person appears after the 12th second of a motion event, you won’t be notified until the first event ends and a new one begins. But in practice, this definitely gives me a lot more person notifications. I don’t have many events that last longer than 20-30 seconds anyway, so unless a person appears in that window and disappears before the end of that window (generally) I’ll get the notification by the second time the motion gets triggered.
For CMC it says to add additional cameras by clicking on “Services” at the top of the Wyze website. This is wrong. There is no “Services” button on the website. The correct answer is to type in “services.wyze.com” in your browser. Please fix.
When viewing recorded events in the cloud it used to by possible to just swipe left or right to the next one. That is now broken. For some reason, the video turns grey part way through playing. Once it’s grey the app is now unresponsive to swiping. What’s up with that? To work around it I have to reload the video and swipe before it turns grey. What’s the grey for? That’s lame.
Other than that, the new app doesn’t seem any worse than the old, and being able to upload videos of useful length sounds good.
Absolutely! Now that the camera has the ability to identify the proper start and end of an event the “Record events only” to local SD card REALLY ought to record the event, rather than 12 seconds.
Keeping it at 12 seconds would really be disingenuous, in my opinion, since it would imply that Wyze is deliberately crippling the functionality of the camera and SD card we own in order to incentivize us to pay for their cloud service. I don’t want to accuse them of that too early, but if they don’t add this soon I will definitely feel like it’s deliberate.
The recording to SD has never been limited to 12 seconds, it records in 1- minute increments if set to events only. If there is any motion in that 1- minute file it keeps it, if not it deletes it. This has not changed
That is an excellent point. For those of us with sd cards, the cloud storage means very little. Eliminating the cool down periods and making accessing the sd storage from the “clip” to see all movement would make people like me extremely happy.
Maybe I should have qualified my comment to include the fact, that I have sd cards and do not care about cloud storage, It is nice that it comes with the cameras (for some people), however the problem is the firmware not the cloud storage. I can appreciate the company charging for additional cloud space, It is disappointing that they are not upgrading the firmware for the sd cards to be able to do the same thing. Worse is that they have created a solution (partially) and want to charge us again for it,
As for gemniii,You are free to justify your own purchases how ever you want, in order to sleep better at night, from your own decisions, however, that doesn’t change the reality for anyone else. Nor does it change the fact that 5 minute cool-downs and not being able to access the sd cards memory from the “clips” are both shortcomings, that I and many others have been waiting patiently for Wyze to address.
If those “shortcomings” are so important to you spend more money and get a cam that meets your needs.
Or better yet go and get the raw materials and make them yourself.
Many of us think the Wyze cams, even with their limitations, work for us. But I think that most of that group did their research on the capabilities of the cameras and were satisfied when the cameras were bought.

How? On my cameras, if I go to the clips it will only play the clip and I have to make a note of the time and then go and try and access it from the sd card separately, It will not continue playing past the clip stored on the cloud.
I mentioned this when testing the beta app, if you touch the screen trying to zoom in the video will turn gray, if you turn your phone from portrait view to landscape view the video turns gray so in every instance if you want to see any detail at all you have to re play the whole clip over and not touch the screen or it will turn gray again.
I don’t know if they can change this but I hope they do because I think it sucks big time
