Oddly enough, not available for my iPhone, but I did get an Android update a couple hours ago.
The 3. whatever iOS app is just stupid. Every time I get an update, restart my iPad or have to force close and open the app I have to go back and reset all the filters on the events page. The app has a worse memory than I do.
I’m still having freezing issues, from several updates ago. Also still have many times where it won’t let me change the tag that the AI got wrong. And often it still won’t let me delete a video making me close the app, sometimes numerous times, before I can finally delete it. When I get an alert and try to access that camera it doesn’t load up, so by the time I can finally get it to load the event has passed. And now one of my cameras will at times only record about 12 seconds of video with a red alert telling me to get CamPlus, when this camera already has CamPlus.
I have another issue this new app software is doing. When I get some notifications and tap one say within a few minutes, I’m taken right to the recording. After viewing it and then deleting it, the next recording comes up but it’s blank and at the top say Unknown Device. It will only show the first event recording and has issues with the rest. If I swipe those away and go to the Events page I can view them all without issues.
Here we are in October and none of the issues in this app have been fixed. Is Wyze working on any of it? Or are they just too busy making new products?
Still having issues where the app won’t let me delete recorded events, I had to close the app 3 times to finally delete the events. Keep getting multiple notifications for the same event, with the same issues I previously reported. And now there is an issue where I close the event and still hear the audio from it. This app is just a bumbled mess, at least for me running 3.1.6 (1) with iOS 17.7 on an iPhone 13 mini. Is this even being looked into? Is anyone working on a fix?
Maybe try it on an Android phone? You can return the phone before warranty runs out.
I have seen at least 5 reports of this now. I think it’s a bug in a recent app version. Hopefully it will get resolved now that more people are reporting it.
I really wish Wyze would get moving on fixing the issues. Today I have to restart the app many times over to finally be able to delete recorded events. Seems like there are more and more bugs lately. And the app freezing thing, is really getting old fast.
Jason recently confirmed they will bring back the Fix-it-Friday program sometime this winter, which should help get some better accountability back for the issues the community feels should get priority.
The fact that they even stopped doing it shows their lack of interest in fixing bugs. What needs to be done is to properly test updates first before releasing them. And stop unnecessary changes to software, that just creates new bugs. Also, increase the department that works on bugs, so fixes get addressed faster.
I don’t have any insight into how the company is run, but I’m definitely on board with the idea of expanding development—and by this I mean remedial development, like “the department that works on bugs”—as long as it doesn’t result in a “too many cooks in the kitchen” situation, because I’d also like to see problems resolved more quickly and more efficiently. (Logging and then reporting via Support ticket as a separate process doesn’t seem especially efficient to me.)
I kinda get what you’re saying about “unnecessary changes to software”, but who decides what qualifies as “necessary”? I often feel like Wyze is maybe trying to do too much with too little, and that’s frustrating to see, but I also like that they’re bold enough to try to introduce new features that people might actually use and that might differentiate them from their competitors, so I kind of go back and forth with some of this, because I really place a high value on stability (which is why my main phone still runs the v2.5x app, though I feel like I’m getting closer to updating that one).
I’ve missed the Fix-It Friday topics because I see that as an effort to reach out to the community, assess our needs as users, and then be somewhat transparent about the priorities for addressing outstanding issues. My perception is that they’ve been doing so much this year that they’ve had to deprioritize that in order to make some other things happen, but I don’t really know all the reasons for whatever went into that decision. I’m just glad to read recently that they plan to bring that back.
I also really like seeing the direct engagement from Wyze Team members here from time to time, like when developers actively solicit logs and enlist Forum members to test new firmware versions in order to resolve issues (the situation with Cam OG Detection Zones getting hosed with a firmware update earlier this year comes to mind, and that’s just one example).
That’s not really why it went on hold. They were still working on bugs, but with the release of the 3.0 app and some other big bugs, they knew those needed to take priority. Jason has also still been taking and pushing bugs up to get fixed internally.
As for the rest, yes, there is certainly room for improvement.
Well, today I spent around 45 minutes going over around 100 recorded events from a dozen Wyze cameras. I like to clear out unimportant events and correct/send Wyze the correct labels to events. In almost every event the AI did not label things correctly or missed things, like people and pets. So when I tried to submit the correct label to Wyze the app would pop up asking if I wanted to delete the event. Talks about frustrating! I tried replaying the events at normal speed all the way to the end, because sometimes that worked, but it didn’t work. Then I tried restarting the app, as that had sometimes worked as well in the past, but it didn’t. I rebooted my phone but that didn’t work. I even held my phone right next to my wireless router and that didn’t work. So no Wyze, my router isn’t the issue, it’s your software the servers but I’m betting it’s your software!
And I really wish you would remove when a camera sends an event notification and I press it, that it goes straight to the live view of that camera. Because, the camera takes forever to load up and by the time it does the live feed that caused the event is long gone.
