Being someone who has a degree in psychology (and courses to train to be a therapist, though I went a different way), this cartoon is pretty deep and clever.
Firstly, my initial impression is that it was about psychoanalysis which I detest and was ready to complain about (Lack of Scientific Evidence and Falsifiability, subjectivity and bias and creates false memories, lack of empirical support for effectiveness, outdated and problematic theories that most professionals agree are complete bs, impracticality, etc… Basically unscientific nonsense that has been replaced by evidence-based models)… But then the squirrel is using psychoanalysis to discuss the underlying psychological school of behavioral psychology (one of my favorites since it’s the most empirically based, though not flawless and others are better for various use cases), operant conditioning in particular.
Using psychoanalysis to tell a joke about the consequences of behaviorism is actually a lot more clever than I was expecting. ![]()
But… Just FYI, most people deeply educated in psychology think Freud and psychoanalysis are basically and mostly nonsense… They’re mostly taught to help people understand the history of how psychology evolved.
Record mogul approaches ‘best psychiatrist on the West Coast’ for treatment. Best psychiatrist agrees to meet and assess record mogul before accepting him as a client.
Best psychiatrist’s assessment:
I’m too old and you’re too crazy. I cannot accept you as a client.
Record mogul persists (a quality he is known for) and begins treatment.
Best psychiatrist eventually dies. Record mogul lives on and tells this story about himself. ![]()
I think I know what prompted this one, and I derive unnatural giddiness from these posts when you take your cues from things like that. Keep it up! ![]()

“The track will be heavy tomorrow, and I’ve got a copper riveted, lead pipe, copyrighted, air tight cinch. Firenzo in the mud – she swims in it.” (1891)
There’s Mexican Spanish slang for ‘machine-like’ that you can add as a modifier like ‘effin’’ is (over)used in English.
So, like, when somebody is effin’ with you and won’t stop. he’s effin’ you around effortlessly, like a machine.
