Did you get a return to Office for work notice? I know most people will disagree with me but I have always thought that people working for the Feds or any company working from home was a bad result from the COVID rules. Just my opinion, not personal. I’ll have the possum come give you a

I don’t mind going back to the office. I’d rather not, because I am by far more productive at home because there are less distractions. But I don’t mind going back at all, if that becomes necessary. We aren’t public facing in any capacity. Our agency actually thrived during covid once people started working from home.

Me too. Unfortunately… Unpopular opinion… as an employer and someone who contracts with multiple businesses, I find this to be a rare exception to the rule. We have tried SOOOOO many times letting various employees and office workers start working from home and it’s always been a nightmare. I didn’t know what it is, but every single time they stop working and don’t do the work they’re supposed to get done and they were always able to do before and then someone else has to do it for them. They won’t even answer phone calls or enter new clients or employees into the system or respond to any text messages or anything. We’ve verified that at least half of them were trying to game the system and get paid for multiple full time jobs all at the same time because they heard other people were doing that and getting paid to do nothing for half of them, But we legitimately have real work that needs to get done everyday.
It’s on the one hand. I have a soft spot for work from home because I work from home and get a ton done and it works great for me. I just wish it was more obvious who would actually do work when they work from home. It’s so frustrating when we keep trying to trust people to have that convenience and then they don’t even work, or their social media will be all about how they spent all day at some place not working while they were clocked in saying they were working and just didn’t have time to get to all the stuff that we actually needed to get done.
So to some degree I can’t really blame all the companies forcing people to go back to the office again. Because in my experience it’s an exceptionally, rare and amazing person who works from home and is actually more productive and does work.
For us, it just got so bad that we couldn’t afford to be paying really high wages for people to work from home and not do any work. So we ended up having to compensate by giving work from home positions people out of the country instead. We pay them double the normal rate that other US companies do, so they love us, And at least even when/if some of them only do half the work That someone in the office could do, we’re not losing so much money since the wage is lower for them… But usually they work hard and do a great job because they’re so excited that we pay them double what they’d get working for big company or in a call center, etc
Like, we really wish we could let half our employees work from home. We keep trying it anyway, but it has always turned out bad and it turns a great employee into one that stops working. So now we usually only make rare exceptions such as if a single mom has a sick kid but still wants to work and not use their time off, or various things like that. But if they go more than a couple of weeks straight it’s always a disaster, even with highly paid salary staff, so now we’re just scared of turning a great employee into a bad one.
I know some do a great job like me (I actually work too much lol)
