Without subscriptions, Wyze cam is just a trash

I just found I am no longer able to live view or connect to the Wyze cam I bought before from its App, without subscriptions. What a greedy company. Anyone else is the same as mine? If so, I am going to dump it completely!

This is not the way it is supposed to be working. All Wyze Cams will Live Stream thru the App without any subscription.

There is something else going on there with your cams, the app, or your network that is causing the issue. However, without specific details like what model of Cam, what version of the Firmware, what version of the app, and a detailed description of the App behavior you are experiencing, it will be extremely difficult to troubleshoot the problem and suggest a way to fix it.

I am surprised at your tone. A “greedy company”?

They incur ongoing costs for each camera, each client, each stream. Each cost is small, but multiplied by billions of events, It’s a lot of money for a small company.

I don’t have any insider information, but I would bet that they make virtually no money on hardware on a fully loaded basis. The way they would likely want to earn their money is on services. Which starts with covering their costs. AWS is not in the habit of giving their service away for free. Do you expect Wyze to give you something that costs them money for free?

If you compare the pricing charged by Wyze for services, you will find that it is quite competitive, especially with all the AI and other value added capabilities.

I get it if you look for a different business model, where you pay more for cameras and then run them entirely on your own without a service. In my opinion that is a thing of the past as you will never get the value add of AI, high availability and resiliency, etc. But if that’s what you want, you can still find it. In the interim, I would recommend avoiding inflammatory language.

Also and as mentioned above, you should get live views and event pictures / 12 s clips. If you don’t it’s a technical issue.

This App asked me to log in, don’t know what caused log off. And when I am out, I don’t have the password. This is not convenient, anyway.

Finally fixed, by remove ad-block in iphone, restart, install ad-block again, And finally there is no potential browser problem message when log in. (this caused the problem).
I was wrong for Wyze.

Thank you for the update! Glad things are working for you

One recent improvement Wyze introduced is the ability to log into the App and the Web Portal using the Apple and Google Auth protocol that uses your account there to verify your identity and account ownership so that a Username\Password and 2FA isn’t required for login. It is a very convenient feature.

Used to be able to view my feed through a web browser - now this “feature” is part of their Cam Plus subscription. Welcome to late stage capitalism where services are taken away and you have to pay to get them back… Wyze was trash to begin with but now their just exploiting consumers. When I asked support why I was given the excuse “These updates are part of our ongoing efforts to improve our services.” Services stripped and placed behind a pay wall doesn’t constitute an improvement, it’s a failure. Don’t even get me started on security issues they’ve had over the past 2 years with web viewer showing camera feeds that were not their own. CEO Yun Zhang should just go back to working for Jeff Bezos. Personally, I’m going to throw mine in the garbage and just get a Google Nest.

Only agree that viewing on any device should be free of an additional charge. Otherwise I have found my 8 cams to work nearly flawlessly with a micro SD card. I guess I am lucky. :four_leaf_clover:

Sounds great regarding flawlessly working.
Question is what are you doing to move the video captured by the SD card after it fills up. From what I am seeing, depending on the size of the SD card @ 256 GB that provides about 7 days of footage @ HD. Question is what happens if you need to review an event more than 7 days. This is where I thought the Wyze online service would provide continuous video as opposed to snapshots. It would be nice to have a DVR like solution this would fill the gap.
Thoughts?

I’m getting a little over a month of HD footage on 256GB cards with cams set to record continuously (24/7). When the card is full, the cam overwrites oldest footage with new. I don’t need DVR-like (NAS) storage for my IP cams as I already have that setup with POE cams. If you’d like to see a Wyze NAS solution, please comment on and/or vote for this Wishlist topic: Network Attached Storage (NAS).

If there is anything to save of interest, I save it to my album and then that syncs to my Gallery, which then syncs to all of my devices, including PC and Plex.

I have little desire to copy over regular events and use the over-write when full. Two weeks of event recordings on a 32 GB card has worked fine for me.

I can understand if you use this for a business, away from home often or want to track roommates, but this is not my case. If it was my case, I would spend more money on a “security” cam.

I think it’s crappy that the app for a phone is free, but I need to pay to view the cameras on a PC.
(I like to monitor the cameras when I’m on the computer).
My workaround, which is a little kludgy and takes a lot of computer resources, is to run the app in Bluestacks.
Next camera I buy won’t be from Wyze.

Bluestacks is good, but I enjoy Samsung Dex more on any monitor from 22" to 41". It is not PC, but works good.
