Anybody have experience with using a TP-Link product like Deco X55 AX3000 WiFi 6 Mesh System with a Wyze Cam Floodlight v2 or other camera? I’m thinking of buying the mesh unit to reach the detached garage, but sometimes these things have “issues” connecting.
There shouldn’t be any issues with pretty much any decent brand router/mesh/etc. Sometimes you may have to disable newer features like WPA3 or tweak something, but usually they just work. However if you’re looking to extend signal to a detached garage, you might want to look at something like the TP Link CPE210, just a basic directional 2.4ghz access point that lets you focus signal in a certain direction. It would need to be hardwired to your router, or you can use an inexpensive wifi extender with ethernet port (TP link and others have cheap ones) to do a wireless connection from that unit to your router.
Can be mounted inside of a window pointing in that direction (outside is a bit better but I’m guessing it isn’t a huge distance away).
I’m assuming you don’t have ethernet running to the garage, if you do then you can just put any old access point out there or even repurpose an old router for it.
The prompt reply is much appreciated. I’m just looking to avoid issues as much as possible. Due to the router’s distance from the back bedroom (closest to the garage), I’m thinking my best bet is, as you suggest, hard wiring from the router to the CPE210 in the back bedroom and mounting near the window facing the garage. It’s about 21 feet to the box that would hold the camera. The router signal just barely gets there, so if im getting the router wifi all the way up to the window, it should work out fine. Thank you again!
21 feet isn’t too far, an extender or mesh node in that room may be plenty and might give you some more outdoor coverage if you need it. But if the only thing you need is that one camera, the directional AP is probably going to be the most reliable and bulletproof solution, as long as running that cable isn’t an issue. Plus that CPE210 is cheap.
I am networking with a TP Link XE75 (AXE5400) Mesh. I have a Battery Cam Pro (BCP) installed inside a shed and 1 outside in the rear of the shed. No issues with wifi operation of them connecting to a node that is well beyond 21 ft, more like 30+ from the closest node. I also have them charging with solar panels and the batteries are always at 100%. I don’t think you will have connection issues using a mesh or any decent access point.
