Wi-Fi vs. 5G?

Not sure if this topic is covered somewhere on this forum. Have a variety of Cams. Cam Pan, Outdoor, etc. 2 outdoor are solar panel connected. Have worked flawlessly for over 2 years.

Recently purchased a new Samsung A36 Android. Discovered that my cameras will lose connection with my home Wi-Fi, which is a A.T. & T. fiber system for several years. I noticed while away from home, everything is great. When I get home, the cameras quit connecting. I have to shut the wi-fi on my phone off so that the system runs on my providers 5G.

Issue #2: I have an outdoor set up in a front window (inside) that looks straight out. It refuses to capture any motion events. I have moved it to another location to change the angle of attack and it does record. Apparently these units need a “perspective” of motion, vehicles, etc. to record.

Other than this glitch, the system is wonderful. Trying to convince my friends and family to abandon the junk they are using and put these cameras up. I like the quality of these units, particularly the ones mounted outside.

What kind of camera do you have and what is the Detection Sensitivity set at? I have Cam v3 cameras inside windows looking out with Detection Sensitivity set at 90. It will record Cloud videos and tag them as Person when people are across my street.

Welcome to the Forum, @tineandsqveaker141!

Since the one thing that has changed in your experience has been the phone, then that points to the phone being the issue. The one situation that comes to mind that might be similar was when Apple released iOS 18 last year and many users were reporting that they couldn’t access their Wyze Cams in the app when the phone was connected to the home Wi-Fi—but they could access their Cams when on their cellular connections or away from home—unless they specifically enabled the “Local Network” permission for the Wyze app itself.

That was a weird one, and I realize that it’s iOS and not Android, but that’s one possibly similar experience that comes to mind. I’m not familiar with Samsung’s Android variant, so I don’t know if they’ve potentially built some similar “feature” into their OS, but that may be one place to look.

Does the phone have any other Wi-Fi issues? For example, if you’re home and have Wi-Fi enabled on the phone and know that your phone is using the home LAN for its Internet connection, can you access the Web or other things as expected? I’m trying to understand if what you’re experiencing with Wi-Fi on this phone affects all Wi-Fi function or if it’s specific to the Wyze app. Providing that detail might help other community members who may have input.

Regarding the second issue with the Cam Outdoor and motion detection, I don’t have experience with that specific model at all, so I’m probably not going to be of much assistance there. My one thought is that the Cam Outdoor’s PIR sensor (I believe that’s what it has) won’t detect heat through glass, so it would have to rely upon pixel changes for motion detection, and that’s going to depend upon some of the settings, like @StevenA mentioned.

Correct, Battery powered WYZE Cam outdoor does not detect through glass. When placed outdoors it is best to capture motion side to side, straight at or away from the camera has maybe a 20% chance of catching movement. When I had a WCO here to see the fence gate I had the face of the cam pointed at the white SUV. Worked great for detection

That’s the ticket! Thanks!! It is a Cam Outdoor, set up inside a front bedroom window. I failed to adjust the sensitivity when I installed it. It was set at 48% and the detection zone was off by about 20 feet. Reset to 90% & repositioned and it is good to go.

Thanks again.
