I’m not sure if I’m posting this in the correct place. I apologize if I have made an error. I am a little confused by the various camera offerings. I use my cameras almost entirely for wildlife. (Though I won’t complain about getting notifications that someone is in my yard.)
Recently I have seen advertisements for a camera which seems to follow a moving target, say a fox. The camera seems to be able to keep the target in the frame. Am I crazy? What camera do you prefer for high quality video of animals?
They all work well for me. But I have fairly low standards and expectations for video and still quality from IOT cams. I think your standards are higher based on your great “capture” posts. I do value ease of installation & use and practicality over quality. I also don’t pan or track as it degrades the video quality especially at night. I prefer to use multiple fixed position cameras that overlap coverage and “stitch” videos from multiple cams when needed. Several members here do the same. There is an ongoing topic somewhere here talking about stitching. Probably in the Captured on Wyze category.
I prefer fixed cameras that do not pan. I have three v3 cameras with somewhat overlapping views of my front street. Notice the white car at different angles in my Monitoring view.
Wow! That is an amazing catch. Is that a coyote chasing a bunny? A couple people have said fixed cameras are better. If you are interested in animals, which of the cameras would you recommend?
I would argue it all depends on what type of animal you’re trying to capture how far you are away from your Wi-fi your power capabilities and how far you need to track that animal. For instance I built a squirrel house recently and I attached a battery Cam pro to the outside of it just so I can see if they are going inside it to get the food to get accustomed to it.
Your backyard is a lot tidier than my backyard. Because of the way my house is set, I really only have a 20x20 space of usable backyard. I have more yard than that but it’s a very steep hill, so not good for much besides sledding, So most of my captures of the foxes and the raccoons and the birds are coming from the same camera as yours. I guess maybe the whole pan thing and follow thing is not a brilliant idea. I really appreciate this forum. (My backyard). I guess this is why I thought it would be cool to have a camera that followed them.
Did I commit a faux pas by posting that video in this conversation? And not in the forum, with a link, the way that you did? I’m sorry, I’m still learning the ropes. Obviously. I didn’t think about it until after. If you would like me to delete my post because it’s in the wrong forum please just let me know.
I saw one of those captured recently on a Bulb Cam and a Cam v4, but there wasn’t much to see, as it was just waddling along the driveway and walkway in front of the house. Still, I don’t see those here very often. I think I’ve captured opossums on video recently more than raccoons. I believe @Antonius uses a Cam v4 for a lot of the videos he posts.
Not at all. That’s what the Upload button is for.
I was just linking to some of my previous posts rather than grabbing the individual media links because I’m lazy and because linking to the original posts provides some context and an easy way to explore those other topics if you choose.
Don’t sweat it. No apology is necessary. I think this is generally a pretty friendly community, and learning how to make use of this platform took me a while. I’m still experimenting and learning what I can and can’t do here.
I have been incredibly impressed at this community and how helpful and kind people are. It’s kind of impressive. I miss my possum. They don’t live very long.
Theoretically I think you could build one for raccoon i’m not sure on that one. I utilized a single picture from the Internet and did some research on what stains I could and could not use and how to effectively use them as well as a few other little searches about tips and tricks for building these types of houses and then just set in my garage and went to work one night.
here is the picture i found. mine isnt as pretty, but it is very robust.
I have a least one come every night of the week. The current one is “with children” again. My favorite was Lucia Nixa the white possum with black ears.
