Good question. And you might want to make note of a couple of things unique about the box. ABS Plastic Universal Project w/Cover 4.7 x4.7 x3.5 inch(120 x 120 x 90 mm)
Check out these two pictures. Though it is square the positioning of the passthrough corner tunnels makes the insides not the same on two sides. Do you notice one side and opposite is 3.3 inches and another side is 2.9 inches? Its okay, just makes a difference when you sit the camera inside.
Also, the extra depth of the box gives you some flexibility in cocking the camera at an angle if you wish if you don’t want it straight ahead. That’s what I did.
Trick: I had difficulty getting the camera to stay right where I wanted it. So, I took a 1.5"x2.5" inches thin scrap steel about 1.8th" (thin) and using double sided tape, stuck it to the “bottom” inside of the cover. This allowed me to sit the camera on the scrap. The magnetic base of the camera took care of the rest. Allowed me to position it and it stayed put. And the camera’s hinge stand allowed me to raise and turn it where I wanted it. Hope this is useful.
Frankly, I have at least half a dozen extra covers, because I could not get the unpainted opening perfect, maximizing view versus less noticeable. If I had used blue tape then, painted, I could have adjusted the unpainted opening more accurately.
Shucks, I wrote about this project once before here. But I can’t find my own post. Here’s some pictures from that last time. This let’s you see the box, but neighbors walking past, generally don’t notice it. And I use Alexa routines to view the cameras at will and on schedule on Echo Show Gen 1’s near my computer.
While we are on the subject, I hid two cams in my porch light. (And power, and an Echo dot, so I can command my BT back door to unlock.)
Just used double-sided tape to stick to metal strips inside the light, because its not magnetic. The metal strips use the cam’s magnetic base. That thin strip below the cam base is a long narrow magnet to prevent the camera from sliding down.
And of course there’s the camera hidden in the newspaper box. This is mounted on my garage outside wall and faces an entry gate.
