Peephole camera, dashcam that links to house wifi when parked, Thermometer indicating on cameras (I monitor vacant buildings and need to know the furnace/AC is working. Solar camera with better solar for Canadian crappy weather.

Generally, I think the idea of cameras in most stationary household items can be useful, a few of my own personal favorites would be integrated cameras into:
- Smart Locks
- CO/Smoke Detectors
- Light Bulbs
- All general floor-based appliances (smart air purifiers/heaters/AC units)
a small unobstrusive camera that I could clip on to my shirt/hat/glasses/etc. with enough storage to video document my whole day and download later.
I was just thinking about this one within the last few days. Everybody visually ignores smoke detectors, so it would work great for having a camera that isnāt constantly drawing attention. It would work exceptionally well for those that are directly wired to power instead of battery operated.
If battery operated, it could be good to do a dual battery system where the camera only pulls power from the primary battery but once that dies, the secondary battery is reserved exclusively for the smoke detector function until you replace the primary battery. The lens would probably need to be a super wide angle 180 degree lens to see the entire room. And yeah, Iād put those up lots of public areas (garage, kitchen, living room, home office, den, etc). It would be even better if the smoke detector worked with the monitoring subscriptions to finally get smoke/fire monitoring for insurance discounts.
It should come with a lens shutter. Then we can safely put them in bedrooms too, and only use the camera when weāre away from home, like in a vacation. I like having a camera my bedroom when Iām on vacation to see if somebody goes in there or what they do in my room while Iām gone, including a cleaning lady. I paid to come clean my house or extended family come to use my pool or people come to take care of my pets or whatever. But I donāt really trust lens just turning off so is shutter would be critical a cloud camera that might be going in privacy sensitive areas just in case there is a āglitchā of some kind
I lose 1 shingle on average every time a big storm comes thru.
So, I would like some sorta shyngle cam that sits at the high point of the roof and can identify which shingles are āflappingā when they are hit by the wind.
The 360 degree cam may need a laser or such to mark the shingle, so that it can be repaired after the storm leaves.

In my case, thereās no roof spot where I can install a camera and view all sections of the roof. Might as well get a a drone.
Iām not gonna pay for a self-flying drone that is capable of flying itself in 45mph winds around my house and my immediate neighbors. That thing is gonna crash into something like my neighbors car.
I also am not gonna take a vacation day to hope winds from the correct direction and speed show up to expose the shingles that are loose.
I am in the process of deploying a gutter-mounted WCO V1 to get video. However, there are no gutters on certain sides of my house.

If the wind can rip shingles off, it can sweep the cam away, too. I meant, use the drone when the wind has calmed down. You canāt replace the shingles when itās howling outside, either.
Iām gonna say, if youāre losing that many shingles a tile or metal roof should be in your near term vision. When the roofing manufacturers like GAF knew that they spread Gloeocapsa magma fungus by using untreated limestone. But they of course didnāt care. Why anyone would use 25 year asphalt shingles over a 75 year metal roof at only a 25-30% price difference is kinda crazy. But asphalt shingles are pushed as they are like printing money with a 26 year subscription service for roof companies and manufacturing. If you get an insurance roof, pay the difference out of pocket and put on a metal roof. Plus they sound good in a rain storm.

I was loving my v3 Pro camera until it broke on Mar. 7, 2025. I didnāt know the latest firmware broke it, so I ordered new v3 Pro and the new v4. While I was waiting on my new cameras, I discovered 2 things that made me a bit worried: 1. Firmware (hopefully not on purpose) made me to purchase new cameras. 2. Personally, I do not like cloud service. Iāve been using SD card on all my Wyze cameras. I didnāt realize until yesterday that Wyze Web Portal (my.wyze.com) captured 14 days worth events recordings on all my cameras āplusā free live streamingā¦
One of Wyze tech told me that this feature is built in so I cannot disable or stop being recorded via website. I really like the v3 Pro (maybe v4: havenāt installed yet) cameras, but I might have to find other brand who doesnāt capture my events online.
If you want complete local storage get a DVR and wired coax, or wired / wireless IP cameras. I prefer cloud storage ( in addition to our DVR and NAS drives ) because it canāt be stolen and with Two Factor turned on ( which Wyze offerers ) itās next to impossible for someone to access from an unauthorized device. Itās much easier for someone (criminal / LE ) to harvest if itās local.
I have windows in my garage door. I saw someone on youtube post a video that gave me the idea to set this up with a V4 as seen in this video.
I didnāt trust the Wyze Window Mount to secure the camera to the Window, so I strung a wire as seen in the video, to hold the camera up against the window.
My garage door position status is determined by a Wyze Entry Sensor. When the garage door opens, the Wyze Entry Sensor turns the V4 camera off (no need to see video of my garage rafters), and when the garage door closes, the Wyze entry sensor turns the camera back on.)
I have a great view of my street, as well as my mailbox now.
Im not a fan of extension cords as temp to perm items. Or for seeing any wiring just hanging around. For all that work, you could have run an outlet to the eves off the garage door opener outlet and put a Pan Cam with a corner mount bracket. Bonus here is the outlet is also for Xmas lights with one of the 2 sockets on Zwave.
Thatās true but in this case, the camera is attached to something that moves. Thereās no way to do this without some dangling wires.
Which - only because I donāt like them dan - gangling wires would be a āthats a nope for me, Bobā situation. I would explore and implement a different solution. An outlet on the inside wall above garage door and pry the garage seal trim away 3/8 of an inch, run the camera wire out and put the camera in the door inset corner. Tap the seal trim back and recaulk and it would be a pro looking install. But admittedly I do make a lot of extra work for myself by adding outlets or water spigots where a want exist,
My goal when setting up this camera on the inside of the window of my garage door was to be a bit more stealth with the camera rather than have it on the outside where it is easily seen.
I agree that itās not the most pretty installation, but it works perfectly for what I needed to do. Yes itās connected to a household extension cord at this time. I will get a longer USB-C flat cable to go directly to the outlet and remove that out of the equation in the future
I gotcha, just from a security standpoint visible deterrents like cameras decrease casual crimes of opportunity. Hidden cameras are for after the fact - maybe catching someone. I prefer the pre vs post approach, because nobody gets their stuff back. As was the āsecurity sales pitchā of the 80ās - having an alarm and decals sends the thieves to your neighbors house. Make theft someone elseās problem, by making your place less inviting.
I too wanted cameras outside my garage. Considered drilling through the opening side wall, the door, above the door, anything. But didnāt want something so permanent that I would have 10X the work to reverse it.
So, I bought two project boxes on Amazon. Figured out maximum view through the clear ācoverā and painted the rest to match the color. The V4 works great there. I mounted the box, and drilled from inside the garage into the boxās side, Canāt see any cables. Ran power using 2.3 amp adapter and cable above the door and down to the inside of the header and into the box. Only two screws hold the cover on, making it easy to open/adjust/close. Project box is about twice the size of the cam. And with the camera and inside the box painted black and a narrow strip for the camera view, you donāt see the round lens.
Two on opposite sides of the garage give it balance and draws less attention to āme spyingā. They face each other, so, I can see comings and goings. And with the wide lens, I can see enough in front of the door when closed.
