I’ve been using a Fire tablet to monitor my cameras. I accidentally deleted the Wyze app and when I try to reinstall, it says my device isn’t compatible with this app. I believe the previous version of the Wyze app was installed and, of course, Google Play wants to install the most recent version.
I’m looking for a safe source for the previous version of the Wyze app and/or recommendations on an inexpensive tablet with a more recent version of Android. Suggestions?
I’ve never used a Fire tablet, so I can’t speak to the experience of installing APKs from another source, but if you’re already using Google Play Store then you’re clearly not dealing with the limitations of the Amazon Appstore now anyway.
I’ve been pleased with my Lenovo Tab M8 (4th Gen). It shipped with Android 12 (Go edition) but has since updated to Android 13 Go. Since it’s running Android Go, I don’t know if Wyze will ever mark it as an eligible device for the new v3.0 app version, but for now Google Play Store isn’t even offering me that as an option on that device, so it’s running the latest v2.5x version of the Wyze app and probably will continue to do so indefinitely (which I don’t mind). I use it mostly for reading e-books, browsing the Web, and watching YouTube when I walk on a treadmill, and it seems to do just fine running the previous version of the Wyze app.
I use a iPad Pro around my house and my Pixel 6 Pro when out and about to monitor my cameras.
I have been shopping for a cheap tablet to keep around when my iPad Pro is charging. I found this on Amazon. It is not very powerful but it does come with Android 14 and under $60.
Thank you, everyone!
I was able to acquire an older version of the Wyze app from APK mirror and it’s back up and running.
I do have Google Play on my Fire tablet and I use Fire Toolbox on all my Fire tablets. The Fire tablet I use for Wyze has a modified version of Android 9. I bought it off eBay for 20 bucks last year. It’s ok but my Lenovo tablet works better.
