Web Events for Cam Pan v4 play audio only, no video in playback with Chrome

So what happens if you try playing back Web Events on Firefox? So far I’ve tried it in Firefox only on Linux, and I’m able to play Cam Pan v4 Web Events (but not stream Cam Pan v4 in Web View) with that browser, so I’m trying to determine if you can do event playback in Firefox. It seems like there’s maybe a problem with playback in Chromium-based browsers with this Cam, but more data would be helpful.

It doesn’t work with Firefox either sound but no video just black screen.

It all depends on versions.

Chrome includes the HEVC decoder (required for 4K cams) and has for quite some time. But that’s on windows, not sure about other Chrome versions. If you’re using Chrome on windows, perhaps the decoder isn’t working or for some reason isn’t installed (your Chrome is up to date right)? Without that decoder you’ll get audio and black for video.

Firefox just started making it available recently. Not sure if it is included automatically or if you have to install it.

Windows (and I believe Edge) you have to pay a fee to add it. Used to be free but they started charging for it years ago.

Weird. This is what I’m seeing for Cam Pan v4 in Web Events, FWIW:

OS Browser Sound Video Notes
Windows  Chrome 144.0.7559.60 thumbs-up thumbs-down video is all black/none; audio plays
Windows  Firefox 147.0.1 thumbs-down thumbs-down “Unable to load this Event” message
Ubuntu/GNOME  Chrome 144.0.7559.59 thumbs-up thumbs-down video is all black/none; audio plays
Ubuntu/GNOME  Firefox 147.0.1 thumbs-up thumbs-up video is herky-jerky; I blame my PC

This is with EFF Privacy Badger and uBlock Origin (uBlock Origin Lite for Chrome) running in all browsers.

I wonder if chrome messed something up with HEVC. Does it do the same in “incognito” mode?

I haven’t tried that on either platform (OS), but disabling the extensions didn’t make a difference when I did that with Chrome on Linux.

Yeah extensions was one thing I was thinking but incognito also ignores cookies, cache, etc. Maybe some update requires cache or cookies to be cleared out. Luckily chrome allows you to do that with specific sites so you don’t have to lose everything for every site. But testing incognito is a good way to confirm if that’s the issue or not.

I don’t think it is. I just tried again on Windows with two browsers in “Incognito”/“Private browsing” modes, and the experience didn’t change:

Firefox 140.7.0esr :green_square: :black_large_square:

Good morning, I thought I’d update my experience with the black screen for events on Wyze webview. To review I have black screen when viewing events with Chromebooks and and on a Windows PC using chromeos flex. I just began using a new Acer chromebox CX!6 and now all my solar pan cameras all present videos of events properly on the web view. Apparently in my situation the old hardware was not capable of processing the video file.

  • Key Details on HEVC and ChromeOS:

    • Native Support: Built-in support exists for HEVC in ChromeOS, meaning you generally do not need to install extra extensions to play local files.

    • Hardware Requirement: The Chromebook must have a processor capable of hardware-based decoding of HEVC, which covers most modern devices.

For what it is worth I have the same problem with an older PC using Chrome but when I goto the wyze portal on a newer laptop I have no problem watching events with sound and video on Chrome…I’m sure it has something to to do with HEVEC…
