We are a preschool, and we are being spyed on/ red light

The cellular router I use has the ability to execute commands remotely via CLI or SMS

Just added the ability to turn on/off port 9000 on the Reolink cams IP’s since cameras don’t care if on Internet or not.

Doubt I will use it much but tested it out and it completely locks out access to cameras remotely.

My main Internet is actually a DMVPN network that allows management access to my other networks routers.

Cameras and other IOT run on their own networks currently dynamic IP based with control of ports being forwarded.

I don’t run a pre-school, but I am a techno-geek. ALL of my computers, tablets, cell phones, home IT network, Voip phones, cameras, and streaming devices all work behind a VPN. And just because I want to, I also do a double-NAT on my network. Wyze cams work fine behind a vpn; (If you know how to set one up properly).

But as others have already pointed out, seeing the Blue and Red lights on the camera is NOT necessarily an indication that someone is monitoring your cameras.

Fair, but the same can also be said for Wyze especially since they’ve historically had far fewer vulnerabilities than Reolink. So if having patched something makes it okay now, then would you not agree that it is logical to treat both companies with the same standard going forward?

We both know the answer to that.

Normal operation. Event recording.

What is the purpose for the cameras? If you are concerned about others viewing them, perhaps they should not be placed where the children can be viewed…

Cameras in a preschool seem to be problematic.

Mostly it’s marketing. Parents can check in and see their kids at play, sleeping, etc.

So they share the Wyze cam to each parent?

What I find strange with all these “conspiracy” posts is that the OP never comes back to the forum after initial post.

I don’t know the exact mechanism. Maybe they have a link.

Is that a new word for creepy

I think habib is onto something. It’s one thing when an OP posts something and doesn’t return to interact with replies… it’s another, when the post is the very FIRST POST from the OP and they don’t return to discuss the replies. Such instances make me suspicious if the OP is legit or someone with other motives.

Seems to happen from time to time, some pretty unstable/unhinged posts. I suspect several of the user names are the same person. This one actually is pretty tame compared to some I’ve seen.

There was one in particular where we tried to coordinate to stop responding as it was clear there was a mental health issue and the more people tried to talk reason, the worse it got, to the point where it could be doing real harm in real life.

I’ve seen similar in forums and reddit subs related to cellular/5g.

If that’s the purpose, the lights will be meaningless since any parent could be viewing the cameras at anytime.

No links without some kind of web cam functionality and a web site.

Wyze isn’t suitable for this kind of applications. It chokes when there are more tha a couple of simultaneous viewers.

When viewing from the web as I mentioned the light does not come on. I view from the web and use OBS to live stream one of my cams to YouTube. From there you can control what usurers have access from public to specific members and even use the live chat. All of this is done as the cam shows a blue light. The only time the light turns red is when using the apps on the phone and it makes no sense. Even then it’s not accurate all of the time.

Actually, I live stream one of my cams of my back yard to YouTube and then I hang out together in a room in VR with friends around the world in VR Chat.
