All I want is a security cam to record and notify when someone enters my property. Setting are overly complicated. I do not aspire to become a security camera expert. This dialog box is a perfect example.
Welcome @bobminter4
Can you provide some additional information? I don’t see the dialog box you are referencing, or I am missing something
Get a different brand such as Reolink, Eufy, etc ..
Wyze app seems to be every evolving, and not always for the better
None of those are “plug and play”. No camera brand is. OP probably needs to hire someone to do an install for them.
Yes, no matter what service and or software, you will need to have more common sense then book learning.
I always like to recommend having a Tech Savvy friend or family member assist with setup. If that is not available or possible maybe look at Geek Squad.
I installed the cameras over 3 years ago. Detection settings have too many layers and other settings are confusing (record events or continuous record aren’t clear which is default) and notification settings aren’t reliable. Like I said, I don’t feel the need to become a Wyze cam expert.
You’ll find that with all of this type of cam, I’ve set up several brands for friends and neighbors and each have their confusing nuances. Honestly of them all, Wyze has been the easiest to set up in my opinion. But I agree there are certain parts of it (especially when you have cam plus) that could be clearer.
Ugh, geek squad, they’ll just tell you your cams are broken and sell you new ones
I better understand your perspective now and completely understand you don’t want to become cam expert.
I got my first v3 camera just over 3 years ago too. It took me a couple months of casual tweaking to understand the settings and get my cameras to operate the way I like.
A couple of years ago, i gave all of my brothers and sister Wyze v3 cameras as gifts. I offered to help them setup the cameras because I knew most of them would not want to go through all of the configuration settings I had to learn.
I truly hope you can get to a point where you are more happy with your Wyze setup or can find a system that requires less tweaking.
If you want a plug and play camera the Wyze is not for you. Wyze camera maintenance and upkeep is overwhelming. Very often something will change and something will stop working. It’ll be up to you to diagnose and find a work around, which will involve spending hours in these forum. For a simple, no-fuss camera look for a “light socket security camera”. Amazon or Walmart. They work.
Reolink’s line of cameras are also a good choice,
The Firmware and Software (App) are STABLE and there has not been an update of firmware to the cameras at all, and the software (App) only once in 2 years.
Comparing to my Wyze cams they are flawless
I’m sure there’s some issue I haven’t found yet…LoL
But nothing like Wyze cams update and break method of operations
The Reolink’s I have purchased so far have superior lenses that are glass, not plastic like Wyze’s which eventually lose the seal and draw in moisture (usually just out of warranty)
Reolink’s products are Not Hobbled like Wyze, and No Subscription needed for full cameras abilities.
External storage is easily done unlike Wyze that won’t offer such subscription busting options.
Reolink supports RTSP, RTMP, HTTPS, and HTTP access to camera. You can use their NVR’s, Hub’s for storage or most any other brand of storage or your own NAS
Far Better Support and Warranties…
Yes they cost more but you get what you pay for
And they always seem to go on sale every month or so…
I can definitely understand people who are “Technologically Challenged”. My wife definitely falls into that category. As an electronic engineer with professional and private backgrounds in RF, Audio, Video, and computers, I try to empathize and sympathize with her. She’s the type that is happy with a tv, single remote, using built in apps. I had to work her up to using a universal remote to run the tv, soundbar, and Roku.
And while it may take a little bit of a learning curve, you should invest the short amount of time to understand the Wyze camera and app. As Dave said above, Wyze is definitely the easiest of all cameras. And while the app may not seem great, you could leave everything at default settings and it will work fine for most people. But trust me, it will be worth your time to understand the basics. As a bare minimum, if you learn how to 1) Turn the cameras on and off; 2) Set up the detection zone so it doesn’t alert bogus events; and 3) Learn how to play back events recorded (or certain times if you record continuously); this is all you really need to know to get the most out of your camera. And all of these 3 things you can easily learn from simple youtube videos.
Here’s 2 easy youtube videos. They are short.
The app
Using the wyze camera without subscription (Shows most important settings)
Any one with any bit of common sense can see you’re getting compensated somehow for constantly spamming this forum and shilling for Reolink. That alone makes me want to avoid their products, desperation is not a good look for a company.
Dave27 and his delusions
Yep you caught me LoL, I get a FREE Reolink Camera ever time you get upset with me posting I like my Reolink cams over my Wyze Cams…
Please continue to be upset with my Reolink posts as I can use some more free cameras that outperform my crappy Wyze cams
I have a friend who bought reolink cameras for his business. For him, having a self contained system, non-monitored / cloud system, was important. I checked out the system. Was it decent? Yea, pretty decent. Would I recommend it for other businesses that need to monitor their property for security? About as well as I would recommend a number of systems.
But here… we are on the Wyze forum. Would I recommend Reolink to anyone wanting cameras for home, residential, private, etc… use like the vast majority here need and want? NO WAY IN HELL!!! I don’t see the image quality, night vision, etc… that much better. Especially for 4x the price. The commercial line of products with a DVR/NVR CCTV system might be ok for a business (so all the recordings are together and more easily managed); but not for the primary use for people at this forum. Basically, the Reolink is the WRONG PRODUCT for the WRONG USE when comparing to Wyze. 2 totally different requirements. There are a couple of Reolink cameras that can “Compare” to wyze; e.g. use internal SD Cards and don’t need a DVR/NVR… but what they can do vs Wyze, they are NO WAY WORTH the price. Not when you can get 5-6 Wyze cameras for the price of 1 Reolink; AND get pretty much the same quality and reliability for normal consumer requirements.
Math is a bit off there
Not even 2x the price in reality
The Lumus Pro 4k is $63 with free shipping
Wyze V4 with half the resolution is closest model for comparison at $36 Plus Shipping
Even without Wyze’s added shipping and handling still less than half
Wyze can’t even offer a true 4k camera because of there overly compressed encoding
As far as requiring a NVR that’s not the case all cameras can run SD cards and/or use a NVR or home hub if you want secured backup if camera is stolen.
I run both SD cards in camera and a NVR in my use case,
How convenient, you’re comparing a sale price from a non-reolink site with the list price from Wyze’s site.
Flip that around, v4 is $20 free shipping on sale right now, Reolink’s list is $80. There’s your 4x math.
In fact I can’t find anyone selling that model for under $80. Not sure where your $63 comes from.
Trust me, save your breath (and I should follow my own advice). I could have been convinced it was just a Reolink fan that had maybe been burned by Wyze somehow, but that was a long time and many many similar posts ago. Posting lengthy reolink advertisements constantly is definitely not without compensation.
