VNight vision IR Issue

I’m seeing an issue on my video with night vision IR on. It’s a flickering bar in upper left corner of my video. Only appears with night vision IR far or near active. What’s causing this ?

My first guess is a filament of a spider web REALLY close to the camera lens.

Able to post an event video, maybe posting a video will help identify what it is. Thanks in advance!

Here is a video that you requested. It’s definitely not spiderweb because that was my first thought and I made sure that wasn’t the case.
This happens to a couple of my cameras that are outside with the IR lights on and set to Far. Same thing happens on near setting. As I stated, originally, if I turn, the IR lights off, that flickering bar goes away. However, I do want to use the IR lights to lighten the background. It’s not a single camera phenomena as it happens to more than one of my cameras. I did trial, and that is the case.

There is something there that’s moving and it looks like it should be fairly close to the camera as it appears out of focus and very brightly lit by the IR lights. Some type of wire? A tree branch? Is there anything visible when the picture is in color mode?

Wait until it’s dark outside, verify issue exists with IR on, take your phone/tablet outside and a feather brush or something that doesn’t leave a chemical residue on the lens, brush the entire front of the cam and check the live view with IR turned on. Make sure you brush the miniscule lens area well, especially the small recessed area between the lens and plastic lens surround. If problem disappears, also brush the top, bottom and sides.

There is nothing nearby this camera

There is nothing nearby this camera that is visible to the human eye.

But it is obviously there, attached to your cam and moving with the gentle evening breeze.

Interesting topic.

You put me on the right track. I Cleaned the lens on my cam and got rid of most (probably 80%) of the unwanted bar in the upper left corner as shown above. I couldn’t believe how much dirt etc was on the lens. Tomorrow (weather permitting) I’ll attempt to get rid of the rest….Many thanks

Trust me on this one. Those of us who have been here for a while have seen similar MANY times - either on the forum or on our own cameras.

Yikes! :open_mouth: :grimacing: :mask:

The funny thing is that the video quality (other than the bar on top left) was Very good even with all that grime over the lens).

That was 2 different V3 camera pictures above. Both produced good video, but I’ve learned to keep them cleaner going forward.

I remove my cams in order to wash my siding every Spring, so I clean my cams at the same time with a mild solution of Dawn and water while they are at ground level. :+1:

You definitely inspired me regarding keeping my camera lenses clean (especially the outdoor cams). You would think this was an obvious thing to do, but I have ignored common sense far to long. Also, my outdoor cams are in easy reach so not even a difficult task. They now look MUCH better than the pictures I posted above. It amazes me that I was getting pretty clear footage even with all that grime. If it wern’t for my origional issue with the undesired bar in the top left corner of one of my cam footage at night I would still be filming through the grime.
