Video quality

Hi, I am brand new to Wyze and this is my first time posting. I’ve purchased 3 cameras and 2 have problems. 1st is a v3 and won’t stay connected. It’s close enough to my equipment and there is nothing blocking the signal. I can reset it and it connects again but not for long. Any advice? 2nd is a cam-og and the video is horrible / black and white. I can click the icon to get it back to normal but it immediately goes back. Didn’t do this last week. What’s up with that? Am I doing something wrong?
Thanks for your help.

Welcome to the Forum, @janet.hjones57!

I can’t speak directly to the Cam v3 issue, because I don’t personally have any of those, but if you’re having intermittent connectivity problems then my first thought would be to ensure that it’s current with firmware. Wyze has occasionally released firmware updates that are supposed to improve connectivity for several camera models, and I see some of those issues addressed when I look at the Release Notes & Firmware section for Cam v3.

If you can (temporarily) move the camera close to your wireless access point while applying the update, then that might improve your chances for success.

Regarding the black & white video on Cam OG, that seems like the camera might be going into Night Vision Mode. How do you have this setting configured on your Cam OG, and in what conditions (specifically what lighting conditions) are you using the camera?

Providing additional details about your current settings (screenshots can say a lot) can be helpful to others in the community who want to assist.

A couple of thoughts.

Is your WiFi router SSID name the same for your 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz bands? If so you might try changing the 5Ghz SSID to a different name. Wyze cameras only use 2.4Ghz WiFi.

As for black and white, you might try turning off Night Vision (at least to test) to see if your camera stays in color. Also clear the App Cache (go to Account - App Settings and clear the cache file.

Thank you! It was the night vision indeed. I turned it off and vwa la… it is good now. Ok so I’m not that tech savvy and I don’t know much about the SSID stuff. It’s connected to my wi-fi I’m certain. Everything is up to date I checked that. I disconnected it. That probably won’t do anything but I’ll set it up again and maybe fingers crossed but unlikely it will keep a connection. I’ll report back if you’d like to stay tuned. Thanks guys!!!

You’re welcome!

Something else that comes to mind with devices disconnecting is power. I understand why some people like to segment their networks, but I haven’t ever personally had problems with operating my LAN with the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands using the same SSID (essentially the network name), and I’m currently doing this with my ISP’s gateway plus a range extender that I’m operating in Access Point Mode, both using the same SSID and running dual-band.

Back to power, I wonder if you’d have any better luck trying a different USB cable and/or power adapter (Cam v3 includes a 5V/1A adapter if you’re looking for something equivalent). Are you using the original adapter and cable? How’s the stability of the power at the actual outlet where you have the camera plugged in? Flaky power can sometimes cause connection problems.
