Correlation only, but someone reported now being able to stream for hours to Alexa devices, which would imply Wyze rolled out promised WebRTC support, which would imply a change to the basic streaming configuration and a possible explanation for new issues such as this…
Eventually everyone will come to the logical conclusion that WIFI for cameras sucks. The people at Ring solved this with their Elite PoE+ product: Power over Ethernet. (They have not added it to their doorbell cam as yet)
And, then there is the new technology that lets you use your home’s wiring as an Ethernet infrastructure. Yes this all costs a bit more but you eliminate all the WIFI BS.
Interesting… very interesting. ![]()
100% true
New home build should be pre wired PoE but until we step up to PoE Wifi will suffice for now.
New technology?? The people at Ring solved something? The common AC power networking standard was done in 2001, twenty years ago. (Variations existed before.). And Power over Ethernet standards were introduced two years later. (Again, vendor specific versions pre-existed them.) Of course dozens of camera and doorbell makers have been offering PoE gear for many years.
That said, I agree that WiFi for cameras sucks. ![]()
If I could make a recommendation for the blue bell light. The camera obviously knows when someone is approaching because the bell on the button flashes purple and blue. I would love it if we could save power and turn off the blue bell when no motion is detected. Then when something approaches have the blue light fade on. We don’t need the flashing purple/blue. In my opinion, flashing purple/blue could be more confusing to the user and less elegant than just a solid blue. Just have the blue light fade on to grab their attention in the dark. It it too bright currently to be on all the time and just wasteful. I already turn off the white flood light because my door is in an area where people walk by with their dogs so I don’t want to distract people passing by.
To summarize: Create an option in settings to keep the blue bell light off until someone approaches then fade in the blue light (no flashing purple/blue).
PLEASE ! Portrait mode for video display on Alexa devices.
I don’t get it. The few times I’ve tried to start a voteable thread they’ve been rejected or merged and yet I see redundant ones like this all the time.
Keep submitting. Perhaps we’ll se some positive results.
Welcome back @kenboncela!
Are you talking about the doorbell issue?
Yep. I chatted with them yesterday. This is not a new issue for them, just nor resolved.
I’ve installed the TP-Link PowerLine product. Works like a charm when coupled with PoE. On that particular install it was a big house and modem/router too far from cam location. The new Powerline 2000 does not even need to be on same circuit.
I got mine as a beta tester and I’m glad it’s nothing I spent money to buy. I still cannot answer it fast enough to acknowledge anyone or talk to anyone, unless they are lingering trying to sell something I don’t want anyway, it’s those rare times someone actually understands the flashing blue means press here and I do get a ring notification that’s most irritating. It was over 12 mo of beta testing and now roughly 8 mo into retail and still no useful answer screen. All I get is the generic iOS notification. Tap that and it just opens the app. By the time I get to the db screen, they are usually driving away. I actually printed a small label that says “press here”, still a rare event, I guess that’s a good thing! But when it’s a neighbor, it’s frustrating. Next most frustrating is the beta started out before camplus started so person detection was included. None of he beta testers were grandfathered so it’s pay for camplus or just the general motion detection. I’ve told all my neighbors who asked to look elsewhere, spend more, get more, if it’s something you need to use frequently. Mostly I suggest eufy now since they seem committed to no subscriptions, plus it includes local storage and I believe they also have web access, and no constant ads to upgrade to camplus.
For the chime, I found clear package tape over most of the front dampens the volume to a reasonable level, some sounds get muffled but it helps. Was going to use bandaids as a statement on the state of the wyze db, but we don’t host any visitors these days.
For us, I initially bought a v2 cam I setup in the sidelight window next to front door, it has a better forward looking view and has the “grandfathered” person detection. It’s on its side, so a bit of a hassle to always have to view full screen, but it works for package deliveries much better than the db cam on the side wall with no person detection.
I installed a Nest doorbell for now and the experience is just noticeably better. The design is straight forward, the button is obvious, it lights up blue when you approach and turns off when no one is near. The speaker is very clear and I’ve clear conversations with delivery people. The load time to get from app launch to live video is much faster and scrubbing through past footage is super smooth.
I would consider going back to a Wyze doorbell if they change the design in V2 and add better/smoother playback controls.
I was considering a eufy due to no subscription required plus internal storage so it has full capability via local WiFi without needing cloud based services. But for this house doorbell location stinks regardless of brand. If we move I will definitely look into alternates if it seems we need better functionality.
Fwiw, a lot of complaints and suggestions made during beta testing were ignored like the button. The speed issues have been improved but still can be too slow to be highly useful. I still can’t answer fast enough to converse and if it’s just a neighbor who lingers long enough, the audio is just so-so.
Yeah I think the doorbell is great but needs better integration.
Like notification through Google home that the door bell was pushed ( Google allows this for 3rds party)
And I think it will need a change for the a camera so it can work well on echo shows and google smart displays! Personally I wouldn’t mind more of a fish eye lens to get more landscape date so it can be in portrait.
Also why no starlight sensor on this?
It was designed before starlight sensors became available. Wyze has been slowly upgrading the camera line to starlight sensors: first the V2 to V3 upgrade, and recently the Pan to Pan V2 upgrade.
Exactly, the Google Home integration is a MUST, and yes Google does now easily allow this for ALL developers, no longer just locked to nest.
