Video Doorbell

It can.

I’m sorry I’m late! I personally don’t have enough experience with wiring and such to feel comfortable venturing advice here.

probably not but a flashing light on the outside of the house would be and it could direct police to the right house faster. I guess this could also be accomplished by using one or more smart LED bulbs in the outside lights that could be triggered by an alarm

Yes that would useful. The light could even chsnge colors.

I was really looking forward to the Wyze Doorbell but was very disappointed to find that it would not ring my existing (old school) chimes like the (ahem) Nest doorbell does. I so wanted to ditch the Nest device in favor of Wyze. Any thoughts of an update to the hardware and software to ring my existing chimes instead of the electronic alert?

My opinion is not likely. The Wyze doorbell needs the power from the existing transformer. As part of the installation, you place a fuse in place of where the wires are connected to the physical chime. This completes the circuit to get power to the doorbell.

All smart/video doorbells get power from the existing transformer by completing the circuit at the chime (Remo, Ring, Eufy). However, Ring and Remo, in series with the wires that connect at the chime, have a chip that allows the chime to be rung.

For example:

SimpliSafe and Nest seem to be able to manage it. I thought for sure that would be a piece of cake for Wyze.

Okay. I didn’t say it couldn’t be done. I just said in my opinion, that Wyze would not be adding that option for the time being.

But, it’s good to know that other companies offer that option. Personally, as I had stated before, I don’t mind losing my original 1969 chimes. I also like the flexibility of having multiple chimes located in different areas of the house.

Is there a way to get one sample to the Europe for testing? Test version or final version.

I already have a lot od wyze products.

I would imagine it is possible to modify the Wyze Chime hardware to trigger your existing chime. If it could be powered off the doorbell’s AC line, I bet you could add a relay in there to trigger your chime.

That’d be great if someone figures it out (assuming Wyze doesn’t do anything with it themselves). Unfortunately, the Ring circuit (Pro Power Kit) wouldn’t trigger the chime when used by the Eufy smart video doorbell. Didn’t try other combinations. The one I have now is Remo (don’t like the video as much as Eufy, but stores events better, and not worth changing back since Wyze one will be coming soon), which also triggers the chime (came with its own circuit attachment, pictured a couple posts up).

Doorbell chime only works if the doorbell is pushed to close the circuit. Would require another circuit to keep energizing chime.

There are sirens that should just work. Connect it to your Alexa…

Why are you all so obsessed with chime? I expect that it will work with Alexa or Google home. So you just put anywhere cheap Echo speaker and you do not need any wiring, modifications… And you can use it also for many other things. But I believe most od smarthome users already have at least one smart speaker

Not really “obsessed” by the chime, but it is a mid-century memento of an earlier family home. And as for Echo, or Alexa, or any of their cousins, the last thing I want in my home is an always-on audio device connected directly to Google, Amazon, or any of the others. Yes, you can call me paranoid and old-fashioned. That’s why I’m trying to ditch the Nest doorbell. I’d be willing to pay extra to Wyze for an accessory that will ring the chime in place of what they are offering now.

Have you got a cell phone?

I’m sure I could build something to activate an existing chime but it would require Alexa/Google and a Wifi relay.
I’m in Canada so won’t have the option of buying a Wyze doorbell until next year.
