Has anyone tested the Garage Door Open/Closed detection with the v4?
I just stumbled on it the other day and have been capturing images to see how well it works. This looks to be a remnant of the previous feature that was capturing camera states to detection a condition such as door open / closed, bowl empty / full.
They should almost just add “Custom” and make allow you to put your own image of On or Off (however to word it) and go from there.
I’m also wondering if this feature could be used for that right now??? Could I point it at an animal food bowl and make it detect that as CLOSED for the garage door when the bowl is FULL and then give it pictures to detect when the bowl is EMPTY for the Garage to be OPEN???
Just tried it. The configuration was straightforward. It shows you a series of images and you select 3 that show if the door is opening, if your configuring open and select 3 that show closing, if your configuring close.
Mine is a little wonky. I had notifications off but Garage Door Detection on and I was still getting notifications… I had to turn on notifications, then turn off Garage Door Detection… then turn off Notifications.
It needs to be broken out to it’s own section or respect the overall notification state of On or Off. It’s kind of doing it’s own thing.
I haven’t gotten that deep yet but I did notice that the notification is not persisted anywhere. I’ve only had the one notification. It only appeared in the Android notification bar. It was not listed in thr V4 events, the main event tab or Descriptive Alerts.
Not sure if this is by design or not. Will have to get a few more to see.
Next day edit: had a garage open event and it persisted everywhere it should. Event tab, camera event and camera filter. Seems good now.
I’m guessing I have no hope of this working since my garage is 2 cars deep and the vehicles near the garage door change / rotate. Is it looking for a static image, or is it actually trying to detect the garage door in the image?
AI is way above my pay grade but my understanding is it probably already has 1000’s, if not 10,000’s, of what an image of a garage door is-both opened and closed. Then it is fine tuned by showing you images of your garage door and asking you if it got it right. Over time it gets very accurate (you hope).
I would think it will eventually get your garage door right.
I think it’s important to remember that while A.I. (a very very general term these days) has a lot of knowledge of images it’s collected, there are still MILLIONS of variations of any given image and it’s being asked to look a garage full of people’s crap with a garage door that is 40% of the view and determine a “state”… on/off, open/closed, pet/no-pet.
I don’t know very much about training A.I. models and the world of A.I. has quantum leaped forward since this posting in June of 2021. I’m guessing there is still some tweaking involved. I need to give it a lot more images to train my garage, it was starting to learn.
What I would like to see is a post from Wyze with tips and feedback. This was released all of sudden and as far as I can tell, Wyze Employees are not chiming in. I love new features and all, but just dropping a new feature out with very little information or engagement is not good customer relations. Maybe I’m just being a baby today.
Issue #1 - Garage Door Notifications can notify even when the camera notifications are off. Garage Door Notifications must be disabled BEFORE turning off Camera Notifications to stop Garage Door Notifications from alerting when Camera Notifications are disabled.
90% sure this is true. I need to test more to confirm.
