V4 camera, recording failed when recording from playback

Yes, this is exactly what’s happening to me as well only on my V4 camera. I’m getting this error on two phones and a tablet so I don’t think it’s device specific.

Out of curiosity, what happens if you try recording a longer video from SD card, like a bit over 1 minute (thinking maybe file boundary issues and I believe the cams create 1 minute files).

Probably no difference, just curious. Looks like a bug, just odd that some are having no issues and others are. Have you tried totally uninstalling and reinstalling the Wyze app? That has fixed some other issues for some, the upgrade from 2.5 to 3.0 seems to cause some glitches.

Hello dave27, attempt to record 3 mins met with the same error. Haven’t tried reinstalling the app, May try that over the weekend. Am wondering if Wyze is aware of this issue at all.

I know uninstalling and reinstalling the app has fixed some glitches for others after the 3.0 upgrade from 2.5, so worth a shot.

NOTE - do not uninstall the app if you are still on the 2.X version. That likely means your device is not compatible with 3.x and you can no longer do a new install of 2.X!!

I installed the latest app update today, but unfortunately the problem persists.

I’m also seeing this issue on a Google Pixel 5a. Very frustrating.

I’m getting this too. Running 4 cam 3s and 3 cam 4s. All the cam 3s download fine none of the 4s will save from playback but will save from live. Any update on getting this bug fixed?

I just installed first V4 Camera and this is same issue happening to me also.
Please adjust this issue

I have the exact same issue with just one of my three cams.

I have two of the same camera
Wyze Cam v3 Pro

One records from SD ok and the other fails with the same error as OP.

I also have a Wyze Cam v2 which can also record.

So it’s not the app or permissions.

Just received update to the camera 4.52.8.0648

But issue still.there cannot record video within the sdcard

I have no issues recording from the V3 Pro or the V4 SD card using iOS app 2.50.9.

I get this too. What’s weird is that you can record off playback sometimes, but I usually get this message when I need/want to record something…and then the error appears. Based off this conversation it’s android app and camera, or is it just Pixel phones that are just having the issue?

CAM V4 got a firmware upgrade yesterday. Problem still there.

Yep, app update and firmware update but problem persists across multiple devices- all android fwiw.

I noticed the same thing, Dncguy. Recording from SD may work sometimes. However, what I also noticed is that subsequent recording would fail.

Give this a try. The next time you succeed in recording the first time, record again. Having said so, this behavior is not consistent because I could never record the footage I want without restoring to my OnePlus’ (Android 12-based) screen recording feature.

I wonder if that’s part of the problem. I’ve read elsewhere on the Forum about problems with some features on OnePlus phones because they run OxygenOS, which is based on Android but lacks some Android features, as I understand it.

I don’t know if that would have a direct relationship to the issue described here. I’m just speculating, and I think this is another indicator that providing detailed information (specific app version, phone model, OS, etc.) can potentially be helpful in determining the scope of a problem.

Nice thought but many of us have noted this problem using Google Pixel ‘phones. and the Android on these devices is about as "pure’ as you can get.
