If anyone is looking to repair corroded, melted, or otherwise damaged USB connections for their cams I just got this nifty item ( https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B07PLZS74V?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details&th=1 )and my dead V3 has at least audio and video working! Have not tried a spotlight yet but it should work OK. Followed the wiring diagram from USB Wiring Diagram: A Complete Tutorial | EdrawMax . I got another good V3 For less than $8.00 !
My outdoor v3 wyze cam had a corroded connection and I bought the same connector and then used a glue gun and heat shrink wrap to protect the connection. The original lasted 2 years, hopefully this will work for the duration.
Thanks for the links!
Hints for those suffering from corroded USB connections where the two cables meet. DeoiIT D5 or WD-40 Specialist Contact Cleaner both do a good job of removing the gree corrosion. They both dry clean. For protecting the connection site, I bought Food Grade Soft Silicone tubing with a 5/16 inch inner diameter and 7/16 inch outer diameter. It sells for about $2.50 per foot or less at many online retailers. I Cut it to cover the entire connection site where the sleeve supplied by Wyze covers about 75% of the length. After 6 months of rain and snow, they are still tight and clean. They are also more resistant to UV light from the sun and cold temperatures than the Wyze sleeves.
Let me make a case for having v3 cameras inside looking out. I do realize some people won’t have a window or AC outlet where they need to monitor. My oldest v3 camera is almost 4 years old and still works great.
Here are views from my inside v3 cameras. The bottom right does get some double pane window reflection from the sun in the south. I am very happy with my Wyze setup for my security hobby.
