I was looking out the birdfeeders out front and glimpsed some unusual movement. I checked the playback on one of the cameras and sure enough I saw a couple of hummingbirds circling. The odd thing is I don’t have a hummingbird feeder out. I think they were looking for protein.
They need their sugar FIX.
I had the humming bird feeder out for a while, but it didn’t get visited. They were actually pecking at the meal worms in the stack.
Happy Birthday mvb! Are you still counting?
Thanks, @peepeep! Yeah I do. But I don’t light the candles on the cake.
I think they get attracted by the red colour as most of hummingbird feeders are red. They get their protein from insects.
It must be the season.
I never expected to capture a hummingbird. I just got a Descriptive Alert that a hummingbird was detected. I falsely assumed it was the bird Feeder. It was not. Our PS V3 picked it up. At first I thought it was just a regular bird grabbing something on the patio. But if you look at the last couple of seconds on the clip you will see it hovering to the left of the dog. Dog looks a bit confused.
Amazing what a $30 camera and cool software can do🙂.
I spy a construction project.
Did the top tier subscription make note?
My wife planted some white flowers in front of my porch camera. Hummingbirds seem to like them.
Cool. What camera is capturing this? Reason I’m asking is my clip showed the hummingbird hovering but you can see the wings. I suspected that this was due to a reduced frame rate. On your clip what I see is close to real time. You can barely see the wings.
Cam v3, Detection Sensitivity set at 90 inside a double pane window looking outside.
Here is another hummingbird video. This video you can also see a shadow on my brick entryway.
How are you getting alerts that say there’s a Hummingbird specifically?
Descriptive Alerts
Edit:Sorry, should have said Descriptive Notifications.
Edit again. Maybe should have been Descriptive Alerts (Ouch. My head is starting to hurt🤔)
It has also been identifying by name when Amazon delivers.
It’s a bit pricey at $20/month but I’m warming up to it!
Just to add to @ronl4625’s answer, that feature is included in Cam Unlimited Pro:
It’s also noted on the plan comparison page.
It looks like you also have the Pan version of the cam, which has specific bird notifications, if memory serves me correctly - whereas all I have with my V4 cam are “motion” and extraordinarily rarely “pet” to potentially notify me about hummies.
I’ll see if I can help sort this out.
-You will not see a pet description described as a hummingbird unless you have the Pro vesion. It will say “pet”
-You will not see a person described as an Amazon person unless you have the Pro version. It will say “person”.
-The following shot shows the events recorded for my bird Feeder. This is a V4. If you note each shot is of a bird and they are described as a “pet”. There is no “bird” setting in the V4.
Which cameras have a setting for “bird” in the Custom Recording section of Event Recording? Of my models 3-BCP’s, 3-P. S. V3’s, 1-V3pro, 1-doorbell v2, 4-v4’s and a single V3 “only” the Battery Cam Pro’s (BCP) have a bird selection.
The fact that Descriptive Notifications gave a description on the P. S. V3, which does not have a “bird” selection, makes me scratch my head a bit and adds to my personal conspiracy theory that with the pro version events may become a thing of the past. The AI sees something and gives you a description. Why does it have to be limited to the current selections of person, pet, vehicle etc? What if it was a truck or a bus or an airplane. (OK, I’ll put my tin hat back on).
There is very little documentation on Descriptive Notifications. Those of us using it have been learning as we go.
Good luck sorting it out and feel free to join the club.
That’s incorrect (as far as I’m aware), as @ronl4625 indicated. Just to point you to some sources, these are official announcements I recall reading about its availability only on Battery Cam Pro (at least so far):
