Turn on your location to let wyze check if you're on the same wi-fi network as the wyze cam

When attempting to download a time-lapse video from ipad wyze app, the app asked me to “Turn on your location to let wyze check if you’re on the same wi-fi network as the wyze cam”.

Can someone explain to me why this is needed? The app and my phone being on the same wifi (1) shouldn’t matter and (2) should be easy to figure out without enabling my location.

Is this a bug or am I missing something?

Thank you,
Joe

Because developers can now find your location by looking at nearby networks, since about iOS 13 (?) Apple requires that you allow location permission before an app can see the network.

Transferring large files device-to-device when not on your network is problematic, so they filter for that.
