Too zoomed in

*Is there a way to turn off the telephoto x3 on my Cam OG? It’s so zoomed in and I can hardly see anything!

Welcome @moonandeye444

If you purchased the OG Telephoto, then no as that is 3x zoom by default.

With that said, if you happened to pinch to zoom on a live stream, then you can Pinch in to remove the Zoom

No Problem. It sounds like you purchased the OG Telephoto Camera.

It was given to me as a housewarming gift. I really wanted the pan cam

Make sense. On the front of the OG Camera, If there is a Purple Ring around the outer portion of the lens, then it is an OG Telephoto. I don’t believe that changed

It actually does. My other Og Cam didn’t have that. I was curious about the purple ring.

Yep, that is the tell. Not many know about that.

So I guess we can sit at the “Cool kids table” now.

That and I believe the lens is also recessed when compared with other Wyze Cam models.

Thank you for the welcome. I haven’t looked that closely at the lense. I will now tho, I’m curious.

You’re welcome. If you look at Cam OG (“Standard”) and Cam OG Telephoto side by side, there are definite differences, and with the Telephoto model there’s kind of a “well” or funnel-shaped cavity going back to the lens where it’s recessed. It’s not a convex feature at the front of the camera like with other Wyze Cam models.

That doesn’t really address your original question, though.

Maybe you could slap a Close-up Lens on it! Someone in the announcement topic for that mentioned a plan to try this. I haven’t yet seen any follow-up on it, though. I like the Cam OG Telephoto for a particular outdoor application: It gives a good view of the driveway from a distance. I can see how it might be less than ideal if you really wanted a Cam Pan v3, though.

Spiders particularly like to hang out in there on mine. I have to evict them from time to time.

While the OG Tel has a more limited use case than the standard OG, I’ve found it very useful as I have it aimed at the street at around a 45 degree angle. It is capable of capturing license plates where none of my other cams would be able to. It also has a close up view of people on the sidewalk which has been handy when there were some car break ins.

So perhaps repurpose it for something where you need distance or more detail, and get a regular OG to put in the spot you have it now. The OG has been as low as $10 at times, I believe it was Home Depot that ran that sale. Costco and a Microcenter have also run sales on the v4 which is a nice camera, similar to the OG with higher resolution. I got mine for like $17, and there have been several sales where you can get 2 for $40 or $45 recently.
