I have and use quite a few of Wyze plugs and would like to add overhead lighting to the app, but in the rooms I want to control, there are 3 or 4-gang toggle light switches. I can’t afford to change them all to Decora style. Is there a reason nobody, including Wyze, offers remote control toggle-style light switches?
Lutron Caseta have remote control, but their light switches nowadays are very expensive.
If you are trying to save some money due to the 3-way / 4-way light switches, you can install a TP-Link HS210 on one side and a dumb switch on the other. I did the same thing for my 4-way lights setup (1 Kasa HS210 smart + 2 dumb). Please note this won’t work with dimmers as you need a pair or more to control.
You can also check out Matter certified version of Kasa / Tapo variant light switches for more local open control, but they are more expensive.
As others have noted, some manufacturers do offer these. Because I’ve had good experience with their smart bulbs, I looked into GE Cync toggle switches at one point (especially considering that the house I lived in at the time didn’t have neutral wiring and these switches don’t require one), but I wouldn’t describe those as budget friendly. Since the house where I currently live is newer construction and has neutral wiring, I’ve installed Kasa HS200s into some 2- and 3-gang boxes using wall plates that allow for 1 toggle switch and 1 decorator switch or 2 toggle switches and 1 decorator switch. If everything doesn’t have to match (i.e., you’re not married to an all-toggle or all-Decora switch environment), then mixing things up makes the wiring easier, I think, because your existing smaller single-pole (depending on the circuit and application) toggle switches give you more room for working with the wires plus the bulk of the smart switch within the electrical box.
I’ve read good things about Shelly switches, too, but I don’t have any experience with those.
Even better deal 2 for $18
All I am trying to find is a remote control “toggle style” wall switch to control a single overhead light. The switch I want to control is a single switch in a box with 2 or 3 other toggle switches, each of which controls just one thing in the room. Numerous companies make Decora-style controlable switches. The one you referenced is a good price, but it doesn’t work with a box that contains three other toggle switches.
It would with an appropriate wall plate, as I noted above (provided you have a neutral wire):
Okay, I have your solution. Got look at the Sonoff TX series of wall switches. Look at itead.cc Just like you want, its a single form factor 1 gang box switch, but it has 1, 2 or 3 separate switches. I personally know you can install this 2 or 3 if you choose and use only 1 or all 2/3. Please take note, of the White TX series, that supports RF signal also, If you look in their Sonoff accessories page, you can also find an 8-button RF remote. You can use 1 or all 8 buttons. These are the only switches I use in my house. Yes, $ 20-24, feature rich. Control with generic 433 MHz remote, Alexa, Google, app and automation/scenes, set for timers if you wish. Since we are on the subject, I also use their RFR2 wireless WiFi switch. This also uses the same RF remote. I put them on extension cords then plug the device into the extension cord. Same as a WiFi plug/adapter, but different form factor. I LOVE THEM. I have about 60 of the RFR2 and TX switches deployed. I even remotely off/on/restart my mesh nodes, TVs, coffee pot, ceiling fans, floor fans, lamps, monitors, Echo shows. One Alexa voice command turns off 20 items at bedtime.
There’s also a US store that is cheaper than Amazon. But it doesn’t have everything the China store sells, yet. https://us.itead.cc/us
Amazon is about 20-30 higher too. I’ve been using them for about 7+ years. A Zigbee dongle and Smartthings hub will pull everything into Home Assistant too.
If I didn’t make myself clear, I apologize. I understand I will need third-party apps; I didn’t want to end up with more than SimpliSafe and Wyze, since I already use both. The Decora/toggle plate shown above will solve all of my problems if the Wyze switch fits under it. I guess that will be my next step, finding out if it will work with the plate. If not, I plan to use Wyze plugs in the rooms where I want to control lighting and attach a lamp to each plug. Not the best, but I will have lighting in the rooms and only two apps.
It should. You can search the Forum to get an idea of what has worked for other users. I don’t have hands-on experience with Wyze Switch, but I’ve installed other Decora-style smart switches with mixed-style (Decora + toggle) wall plates like what I’ve previously linked, and that hasn’t been a problem at all.
