I have tried everyday this week to run a timelapse and it has failed everyday. I set the date, time, frame capture and hit set. I check back to make sure it is running and it is. After the timelapse time frame has passed, I go into the album for that camera and there is nothing saved there. I have run the firmware updates and they aren’t updating. Not sure if that has anything to do with doing a timelapse. Any ideas.
Hey — empty album after a “running” timelapse on Cam v4 is pretty common when the job never actually wrote frames.
A few checks that usually sort it:
-
Confirm there’s a working microSD in that cam (formatted in-camera if needed), with free space. Timelapse frames for Cam v4 generally need the card — if the card is bad/full/missing, the job can still show as running and leave the album empty.
-
After the window ends, open that camera’s Album (not just Events) and pull-to-refresh. Sometimes the UI lags.
-
Try a short test window (e.g. 10–15 minutes, low interval) while you’re watching. If that also lands empty, power-cycle the cam, reseat the SD, and retry once.
On the firmware that won’t stick: leave the cam powered and on solid Wi‑Fi, close/reopen the Wyze app, then retry the update when no timelapse/recording job is active. If it keeps saying success but the version doesn’t change, note the version shown under the camera’s Device Info — that helps narrow whether it’s a download fail vs. a reboot-apply fail.
If a short SD test still writes nothing, try a different known-good card (FAT32) before chasing app settings further.
I found VLC app to play the file which worked but still won’t show in the phone app under album.
I set up another cam (V3) to do a timelapse as a test. I reformatted the card. The firmware is updated to current beta. After the timelapse was complete I look in the album and nothing there. Pull the card and the file is there and plays fine in VLC.
Can any of this be from the any of the updates recently? I used to be able to do timelapses in the past just not recently.
Seems that the timelapse file is created on your SD Card (so SD Card is working) but is not displayed in your V3 and V4 album.
What Android version, WYZE App version, V4 Firmware verrsion are you using?
V4 Timelapse shows in my V4 Album and allows me to download. My phone - Android 16, WYZE App 3.22.0(973), V4 Firmware 4.52.17.19
you’ve confirmed that the timelapse is there, I would restart the camera ( via app button), I believe this refreshes what files are on the card and might update it so it would show ( that would be what I would try) Try to clear the cache for the app as well ( not data!)
I was able to get one camera to do a timelapse. I restarted the camera, took the SD card out reformatted in computer after I downloaded all the current files. Then reformatted in the camera. Restarted the camera again. Crossed my fingers (most important part) and setup the timelapse. And it worked. I am assuming that a timelapse will not overwrite current files on a card anymore. It used to overwrite them.
On the previous timelapses I tried, only one wrote to the card. I had it set up to record 4 days in a row and only got the first day.
I feel that I cannot trust the timelapse to work without jumping through all the hoops.
