Thermostat Over Ride

I just installed the new thermostat and set the temperature parameters via the app. Now I want to temporarily manually over ride the setting by increasing the temperature via the thermostat directly. But apparently the setting can only be lower than the preset temperature and not higher. This doesn’t make sense, even by stupid thermostat allowed for a Hold feature to temporarily change the setting. Maybe I’m missing something, please explain how to manually over ride the preset temperatures. A written instruction manual would be handy instead of just videos. The videos are great on installation and initial set up but a reference sheet is also necessary.

Welcome to the Community!

If you tap on Controls at the bottom of your screen, you’ll see the Hold button. That should be what you’re referring to.

I don’t want to get my phone out to control my thermostat, when I just want to up the heat a little by using the wall device with the wheel. And what about when I’m gone and my wife wants to make a change. She doesn’t want to use her phone. The wall unit should have the capability to make changes, at least temporarily until the next programmed change (home, away, sleep).

I just turn the knob to the desired temp and click…seems to work fine that way?

My newly installed thermostat will not allow me to set the temperature higher than the preset but will allow it to be lowered. This just doesn’t seem right. Maybe my unit is malfunctioning?

Yeah I can set whatever temp I want on my phone or on the thermostat itself. Higher or lower.

Are you able to place the thermostat to “Hold” from the thermostat or do you need to use your phone?

The only thing I can think of it not allowing you to go up is if you’ve bumped into the 5 degree limit relative to the cool temp. Maybe you have to up the cool temp first, then up the heat. And yes, that makes no sense either.

Not home until Monday, 1/4/21. I’ll then check the thermostat to see how it’s working. I placed it on Hold with the heat set low enough that it won’t come on. It appears to be working as the actual temp in house is falling and furnace is not coming on. Need to see why I couldn’t rise the set heat temp via the device. Does anyone know how the Away feature works? Does it automatically get set when no one activates the motion sensor for an amount of time and/or when the cellphone with the app leaves the house? I set it to Away prior to departing house and apparently when I walked in front of the sensor it changed to Home. I then reset it to Away and left the house for a vacation and when I checked the app later that night it was at the Home setting. I again set it to Away and when I later checked the App it was again at Home. That’s when I set it with the Hold feature and it’s now staying on Hold. I thought the Away feature would be automatic and it may be but I still don’t understand how it works. I really want to love this thermostat but currently I have reservations. WYZE please develop a programming guide with all the nuisances explained.

My Wyze thermostat also fluctuates. One minute, 71, then a minute later, 76. I have another temp gauge next to it and is shows the Wyze is wrong. In addition, I have noticed many times where the furnace is running but Wyze, the app and thermostat, indicate it is not. The lack of operating instructions will kill this product before it gets off the ground. Not one thing with the package or online has instructions on how to operate it from the thermostat or the app. The final really stupid thing is the mandatory 5 degree difference between heat and cool. Why can’t I set it to 74 and leave it there? Because it won’t let you. It also failed to turn on heat for the 2nd stage heat. I assume it only knows that because I selected the W2 wire on installation. I tried to get my wife to take it for a spin, no-techie, she was lost and had no idea how to operate it and was not ‘techie’ enough to figure it out. Because of this, she is not a fan of the thermostat and I can see her asking me to put our old one back. Time will tell. WYZE: Get some operating instructions! 2. Dump that 5 minute mandatory gap on heat/cold. 3. Figure out WHY all the complaints of the temp fluctuations. I do this for a living, you want me to write you some operating instructions?

I found that using the Auto mode may interfer with manually changing the temp at the device. I couldn’t increase the Heat temp beyond the preset temp. After changing the mode from Auto to Heat the temp could be increased. Apparently the preset temps for heat and cool were set too close to each other, which prevented the increasing of the heat temp. I still don’t understand the Away state and how it works in relation to the Home/Sleep states. What automatically activates and deactivates the Away? How does the motion sensor change the setting from or to the Away state. And does the location of the phone change the state?

I agree with everything being said on this thread. I have worked in aerospace as an engineer for 42 years. From what I can see this complete lack of a concise users manual is typical project for management rushing a product to market. The first thing that gets cut from the product time line is maintenance and user consideration. This is done in order to meet the sales schedule. I think that the technical development team assumes that the end-user is as smart them and should know what they meant. I hope a complete users manual is released soon or this product is liable to ‘tank’. My wife is pretty much fed up with it. I am a bit disappointed about the thermostat operation and I hope the Door Chime and watch I preordered function better. I guess we’ll see. Other than that, I think it was a darn good idea to produce a thermostat that people can afford. Please, just make a usable ‘How To’ for dummies. Most of my V2 cameras work fine however.

To control the thermostat from the wall unit follow these steps:

  1. Tap the unit button once
  2. Turn button to select temperature to change(heat/cool). It should highlight the one you wish to change.
  3. Physically push the button in lightly by pushing on the outer edges. The temperature will be displayed.
  4. Now turn the button to the desired temperature. It should now heat or cool to that temp.

My apologies. The first line should read Turn not tap. Tap can get you into all of the settings, but this is more complex.
