I was able to set up my thermostat back in January (thanks to @speadie) using the first diagram.
I didn’t think it heated very well over the winter, but only found a 5 degree difference btw my thermostat and a thermometer.
Fast fwd to higher temps in June, and I’m realizing my AC is not putting out cool air at all, just blowing lukewarm air. Reading thru other posts, I decided to start with a factory reset, then deleted and tried to add back my device, and I keep getting a wiring error. Before panicking, okay, after a slight panic, I decided to reach out for any easy solutions before I start from scratch.
Also wondering what I need to do to get the cool air moving.
One question about resetting the app: Do I tell the app the new wiring configuration or the old one? That could be the difference. When I initially set it up, I was using the original wiring, now I told it the current set up
Update: I was able to reinstall the app and get the unit working. So now my issue is just that it continues to not put out cold air and I the fan is blowing but the outside compressor is not running. So something must be wrong with my wiring above.
Tell it that your old thermostat has the following wires after a reset:
Rc, Y, G, W
Do not tell it that you have a C wire if you are using the C adapter or it will not work correctly.
Not cooling means that Y at the ac is either not connected properly or you have a miswired C adapter, or your AC shutoff/disconnect is in the off position. Can you show a picture of your installed C adapter and furnace wiring board?
I immediately see that I have the Y wire from C adapter in the incorrect port. I just changed it to the Y port and no change. Fan running but not the outside unit
Ok, I see the problem.
you put the c -adapter between the wires and the control board instead of in the wirenut splice point.
To fix this, with the minimal required wire changes, do the following:
With the power to the furnace off:
Take the wire that you currently have attached to the Y terminal on the C adapter and connect it to C on the furnace control board with the other C wire. (there should be 2 wires on this terminal.)
Take the blue wire from the wirenut with the red and blue wires:
and connect it to the Y terminal on the C adapter.
Connect the red wire from that wirenut to the Y ribbon cable wire from the C adapter.
The Y terminal on the furnace board should be unpopulated.
When you have finished this, turn the power back on to the furnace and cooling should work properly.
Your end diagram should look like this:
Wow–that worked. @speadie, thank you once again. I am amazed at how you are able to quickly troubleshoot so many of our problems. These wiring conundrums are not intuitive at all (to me)!! I feel like you should start a Wyze consulting business (seriously). You are so helpful! I can’t thank you enough
