The invisible hand?

Neighbors came to the door and told me our car had rolled down the street and banged into the telephone pole. I figured I’d failed to put on the parking brake, an error I never make! But I had parked it hours earlier. I checked my Wyze cam and saw the car sat motionless for four hours and 32 minutes before almost imperceptibly starting to roll and then, in only 26 seconds, picking up speed before banging into the pole and then rebounding. My conclusion is the afternoon sun heated the tires just enough to change their geometry enough to put the car in motion. Without the video i’d’ve been sure the wind had picked up, a kid had leaned on the car or a cat had jumped on it. But none of those things had happened.

Wyze cameras do capture some interesting videos. Here are the Wyzies Video Finalists for May 2025 if you have not seen it yet. Glad nobody was hurt by your rolling car.

Wow. I remember cars with manual transmissions had that issue years ago. I don’t apply a brake but always put the car in park. If I turn off the car, it will put it in park for me. I think it even puts the car in park if I open the door in gear.

Florida is flat, so that is one thing in our favor. We never worry about curbing our tires.

Great it was caught on cam.

I had friend that his car rolled downhill in San Francisco. What a mess that was.
