Same. I had forgotten mentioning “Wookiee stains”, so when I saw it in the summary I went back to find it in context. ![]()
AI knows were are watching it. It is neat how you can regenerate the summary. So far AI seems unbiased but observative.
The discussion is about the new Summarize option on the forum, which was enabled around Feb 11-12, 2025, as mentioned by Seapup. ssummerlin discovered the feature and found it helpful for understanding long-winded posts. The feature uses AI to generate summaries, and users are experimenting with it, noting its ability to pick out humorous details, such as “raccoon outhouse” and “Wookiee stains”.
carverofchoice suggests that it would be cool to have a “TLDR;” button to summarize individual posts, rather than entire threads. Crease agrees and notes that it would be helpful for lengthy posts, such as AMAs.
Users are also curious about how the summarize feature works, with carverofchoice wondering if it gives more weight to highly liked comments or users with higher trust levels. ssummerlin suggests monitoring the summaries to see how they are generated.
Overall, the discussion is positive about the new feature, with users finding it helpful and entertaining. peepeep even jokes that almost everything they say is a veiled compliment, and Crease teases carverofchoice about their long posts.
Me: It’s neat to see the overall viewpoint.
Now I desire an AI to summarize the entire forum. It would be fun reading a book on the varied topics.
What I’m learning from this so far is that I need to perpetuate the use of the phrase, “Wookiee stains”.
There’s a ‘you had to be there’ aspect to some long threads that felt spontaneous and exciting as they were developing live. That may come across sometimes as you slog or skim through a big, long thread, but often it just does not.
So AI summarizing. It should provide a caveat that there may or may not be a benefit to reading the full text and that it is not designed to detect the value of this ‘live’ aspect, nor to advise on whether the text is worth reading in full.
Like this?
There is no benefit to reading @Crease’s posts. You can use the Forum’s “ignore” and “mute” features….
Naw, no critique intended, it’s just spontaneity is intoxicating, I think. ![]()
Me, neither. No one bothers me that much, I guess. ![]()
…until now. This is how I get my name onto lists.
Hrm…maybe Discourse should rename that feature as a user’s individual “naughty list”…. ![]()
Oh, I know. That whole self-deprecating-humor thing is just a lifelong habit. ![]()
Give it time. I guess I’ll have to try harder. ![]()
Like Howard Stern always talking about his modest endowment to elicit, ‘Oh, Howard, it’s not that small!’ on encounter?
Kind of a stretch, I guess.
![]()
I see what you did there. ![]()
I haven’t spent much time listening to Stern, so I wouldn’t know about that, specifically, but it reminds me of a time when my dad said that he didn’t have a “schlong” but a “schlort”.

I thought it was pretty clever. He occasionally threw curve
s with his commentary.

I had a favorite uncle who loved saying urine, my’un and ours. He smoked a big cigar and had a great smile and laugh.
My great uncle (my dad’s uncle) was a retired fire chief who loved chatting over the airwaves from his basement bunker with his ham radio buddies, and I can still remember his occasional conversational interjections with his call sign. He had this vast library of stories that he liked to tell, and he would laugh so much telling his own jokes that it was genuinely infectious.
A dying art. ![]()
The discussion MFP Drinks too much revolves around a cat, MFP, who was seen drinking water for 15 minutes, prompting concerns about its health. Antonius shared a video of MFP drinking water, and habib suggested that MFP might have diabetes. carverofchoice noted that many older cats die from Chronic Kidney Disease, which could explain MFP’s excessive drinking.
As the discussion progressed, Antonius mentioned that MFP had not shown up for a week, which is unusual for the cat. carverofchoice expressed concern that MFP might be experiencing health issues, and ssummerlin shared a story about a cat that was helped by a kind neighbor.
The conversation took a turn when StevenA shared a video of animals reacting to mirrors, which sparked a debate about whether it is cruel to animals. habib and carverofchoice weighed in on the issue, with carverofchoice noting that it depends on the species and individual animal.
As the days passed, MFP remained missing, and Antonius continued to express concern. carverofchoice noted that MFP’s sudden disappearance, combined with its previous health issues, does not look good. Antonius shared a photo of MFP, and Seapup mentioned the dangers of second-generation anticoagulant rodenticides.
The discussion concluded with TomG sharing a story about cats that disappeared and then reappeared, and carverofchoice comparing cats to teenagers. Antonius wondered if MFP’s home was the house behind him, which had recently been vacated, and carverofchoice encouraged Antonius to get a new mascot.
Summarized with AI on Feb 17
Great summary.
But AI attributed the @carverofchoice story to me. I just referred to it.
You should frame that and hang it in your diner, or put it on a t-shirt.
See? Even the AI knows you love(d) the little freeloader
You know what AI feature I want?
I want a button that will have the AI read all the new instead comments in the last [x amount of hours/days] and summarize the most important parts for me. If it could read the hundreds of instead posts for me and summarize what I would likely care about and give me a link to the ones that I’m likely to want to read more of, that would be so awesome.
That would be great. Wonder if, and when, AI can handle this task.
