Is it just me or is anyone else annoyed at the fact that the top screw to complete the installation of the doorbell cam is silver instead of black?
Paint it?
Am I missing something? None of the screws are visible after installation.
@XavChris - Not a good entry to the forum. How petty can you get. Hope this was just meant as a joke.
I’ve painted many silver screws black with Marks-A-Lot permanent markers. Sharpies work ok but usually a bit purple tint.
But yeah, I’m OCD and even I’m laughing at this.
Not petty but realistic. How can products get better without candid input from the consumers? Wyze does a fairly decent job but when you stop trying to improve you get left behind. Lastly, @fmills1d thanks for your armchair coaching on my etiquette, I am sure the forum is so much better for your comments.
Can you provide a picture of this screw you’re talking about, for reference?
@XavChris - How do you equate a complaint or “candid input” about the color of a screw, that will never be seen after installation, with a quest toward product improvement? How does the color of a screw help improve a product? In what universe does this relate to the “big picture” or even the “little picture”?
“Armchair coaching” of your “etiquette”, far from it. Where is the inference of etiquette in your original comments. Seems like I may have put a chip on your shoulder as your closing comment was indeed petty.
Oh well, life goes on and the Forum continues as an open source of help and knowledge.
@Omgitstony Here is the pic you requested - thank you for sincerely seeking to understand before making snide remarks
@fmills1d If you took the time to ask like @Omgitstony you would see from the pic attached it is quite evident and clearly visible.
That screw shouldn’t be there. That’s where you insert a pin to release the Duo from its base.
Well that would explain that! LOL
Touché @p2788deal Enough said @XavChris.
@fmills1d I am man enough to call myself out when I did something boneheaded. It doesn’t change your less than helpful commentary.
Thanks @p2788deal I can’t believe I missed that in the install manual. I appreciate your input and help!
As stated, that hole is for the pin to release the doorbell from its back plate. See this video at about 1:27ish.
How did that flathead screw end up there?
The screw is for anti-theft. It prevents pin penetration. Great idea actually.
He probably paid more for that safety feature.
@XavChris - As you are man enough to call yourself out, I’m man enough to do a “mea culpa” for a less than diplomatic approach to your question as was your retorts. However, I do like @ssummerlin’s comment of the screw being an anti-theft measure, but wonder if you compromised the pin insertion release aspect of the hole.
@ssummerlin - “Great idea actually”? Only 1 problem with the screw being anti-theft and “preventing pin penetration”, it’s on top of the duo, highly visible, and easily removed by something other than a phillips screwdriver. A better design would have placed this feature under the bottom of the duo regardless of the battery placement. That could have been an easy design around. As a matter of fact, most other vdb’s I’ve looked at has the anti-theft screw on the bottom. Some with a specially designed screw and screwdriver and less expensive than the duo.
Paint it black.
Any lock can be broken into. The idea is to slow the crooks down.
I normally don’t carry a screwdriver in my pocket. I also don’t carry a pin tool in my pocket. Maybe use a torx screw?
It was a joke to lighten the tense comments, but it could be a slight deterent.
I could make another joke to lighten the tense comments at your expense but I’ll let it go
If the thief is determined, anything can be stolen. By installing a video doorbell outside, you accept that risk. I once used an old worn ot child stroller at Disneyland and it, too was stolen.
