Smoke Detector Notification Bug

Config 1,

Global notifications enabled
Individual camera notifications disabled
Smoke/CO alarm enabled

Expected behavior: event recording saved, no motion notifications, receive smoke/co notifications.

Config 2,

Global notification on
Specific camera notification on
Specific camera event notifications > motion events > all disabled
smoke/co alarm enabled

expected behavior: same as config 1

What is really happening,
config 1 behavior: no notifications for at all, smoke/co, movement, etc.
config 2 behavior: all movement/sound notifications and smoke/co despite having all motion events disabled.

Seems like the only way to make this work is to disable event recording. You would expect enabling the alarm/co notification to ignore the other camera notification settings and only be overridden by account notification snooze. Especially seeing as how this setting is separated from the other notification settings and is such a critical safety function.

thanks!

Individual camera notifications must be enabled for them to work. You can disable all the notification types by going into the notification settings and selecting “Manage”, but the main setting must be turned on.

Recording (tag) and notification (notify) are two different settings. You can leave tag enabled and disable notify.

It does not seem to work the way you have outlined, under “Device notifications” Notications are ON, Motion events are all unchecked (person, other motion events, sound events). global notifications and alarm notifications are on. In this configuration, I get alarms for all motion events and smoke/CO.

You’ve got something strange going on there, the screens you’re showing look like the ones you get when you have it set to “smart detection” but clearly you don’t have that toggled. I’d try clearing the app cache, both in the app and in your OS. Or even uninstall and reinstall it.

“Reset services” might help but that looks more like some sort of app glitch.

When you have “all motion” selected you should be able to into a customize screen and de-select notifications for lots of things, not just people and other motion.

Thanks Dave for your help. You seem like a popular guy here, do you know how I could get someone from Wyze to see my thread? I tried uninstalling and reinstalling (Android), I also tried reset services on one of my cameras, my screens all still look the same as pictured. I do not have cam plus, so I cannot enable smart detections anyway. I have cam plus lite on all my cameras, maybe that has something to do with it.

Other than tagging some random employees that post here from time to time, not really, but I think other users here can provide some insight. I do believe the Lite is a different animal so that may explain the difference in screens, but not why you can’t disable other motion notifications.

@habib you used to have Lite right, and maybe @carverofchoice? Are those screens normal for that plan?

I think the screen shots look correct as Cam Lite has only person smart detection. It’s been a while since I’ve had it so my recollection might not be spot on. Someone with an active Light account might be able to shed better light.

thanks guys. if it helps, the notification i am getting is labeled as “person detected”. i will pay attention and see if there are other types, i dont think i have seen “motion detected” or “sound detected”.

bump still havent figured this out

Looking back at your screen shots, what happens if you turn off “record sound events”? You should not need that enabled. What is listed if you click the “smart detections” there?

This may just be a limitation of cam plus lite. If you don’t need that feature, maybe remove the cam(s) in question from that subscription? you have it set to “all motion” so it isn’t gaining you anything I don’t think.

Sorry for the delay @dave27 , I figured it out! I should have tested this before, the problem is with the “smart detections” under the “event recording” section for each camera. This area apparently completely overrides anything set in “notifications” section. I suspect this is some oddity with cam plus lite, becuase trying to enable “smart detection events” from “all motion events” it hits me up for a subscription. However I am able to still change my “smart detections” at the bottom which did have “person” enabled and was persistently notifying me regardless of settings in “notifications”.

TLDR;

“Event Recording”: Record motion events - enabled, Record sound events - enabled, Smart Detections - all disabled

“Notifications”: Notifications - enabled, Motion events - all disabled

“Alarm Settings” Smoke alarm sound and CO alarm sound - enabled
