Why do I lose my setup on a device when I shut my phone off? V4 device
Can you clarify a bit? You add the cam and all is well, then you shut off your phone and it is totally gone from the app? Is it even if you just reboot or shut off the phone for a bit or is it like overnight?
I wonder if someone else is trying to register your cam to their account while your phone is off, someone in the house that thinks you won’t notice (which would cause it to get removed from your account and added to theirs).
If your camera is installed in your account, each time you log into your account, your camera should show because the settings are saved in the cloud. Are you sure you’re logging in on the correct account? More information as to your issue with screenshots will help us be able to troubleshoot with you.
I was in the process of sharing access to the account with my son. I wasn’t sure if my phone being on and on location would be an interference. I shut it off and got my son signed in and went home. I later checked the camera and found I needed to do a complete set up again. Today I went back over to moms and got my phone communicating with the camera again. This time my son lost access to the camera. Do we need to be paying a fee to share?
Are you both using the same email and password to log in? Or are you adding the cam in yours, then adding it in his? The latter will cause it to disappear from yours (then again from his when you re-add it to yours).
A cam can only be on one account, however there are two ways to share:
-You both use the same email and password (account) to log into the app.
-You invite him to be a shared user to your account, which he then accepts in the app. Note that shared users are restricted somewhat, they can’t view SD card recordings or change settings etc.
He registered into the WYZE . I then shared access to the camera with him
We’re obviously missing something in the sharing process. I set the account up with an email he doesn’t have access to. I then type in his email accordingly to the app and follow its instructions
That is very odd.
I would go into your account and revoke his shared access (temporarily). Make sure his account no longer sees the cam. Then delete the cam from your app and sign out of it. Have him sign out too.
Both of you uninstall and reinstall the Wyze app.
Hold the setup button on the cam for about 10-15 seconds until it factory resets.
Set up the cam new in your account. Then share it to his account (no need to turn your phone off, you can both access at the same time).
That’s all I can think of, I don’t know what would be causing that other than some sort of app/server glitch which hopefully the above will resolve.
Now he has to go back over to moms , hit the setup button and step through the setup again right?
No!
That will make you lose access to the cam.
If that’s what you did before, that explains it perfectly.
You only set up the cam in the main account. You can then share the cam to his account from the main account, and he does not need to do any setup or anything, just accept the invitation.
Accept it through an email invitation?
When I hit share that is
Yes there should be a link in the email that will open the wyze app and accept the invitation, but pretty sure when you go into the app it will also have a notification that a cam has been shared and you can accept it there too.
I followed the app instructions. It’s pending. Does he see this email and accept?
Yes, he should get an email, or can just go into the app and accept it there.
We got guys thank you very much
Great. For reference, you can only “set up” a cam in a single account. If you then push the button and set it up in a different account, the original account will lose access. The only way for two (or more) accounts to be able to see the same cam is by sharing it like you just did, no need to do the “set up” process on the cam for the additional accounts (in fact as you’ve seen, you don’t want to do that).
So basically yours is the master account where the cam is actually “installed”. The rest are just given guest access to view the cam, so it isn’t actually in their account, just shared to it.
You can have a mix of “owned” and “shared” cams in the same account so if he ever gets his own cam, he can do the normal setup process via his account, and will retain access to the one you shared with him also. Can even then invite you to share that cam.
As mentioned before, if you are a “shared” user of a cam, you have restricted access. Can view live feed, and events (still frames if you don’t have Cam Plus, 12 second videos if you do). They cannot access the SD card and most settings are not available to them. Many settings in your account will also change that setting in their account too, like turning off notifications will turn them off for both of you.
I’ll also mention that there are some “nuances” with shared accounts.
He won’t be able to access settings for the cam, which is intentional.
He won’t be able to view SD card recordings as I mentioned before. I’m guessing this was intentional but it is a feature that has been requested for quite a while. He will be able to view live video and event images. If you subscribe to Cam Plus (you only, he doesn’t have to) he’ll be able to see the 12 second clips for events.
Any setting you change will affect him as well, even though he can’t see those settings, or any automations you create. So if you set a cam to turn off notifications from 8PM to 8AM (for example) he will also not receive notifications during that time. The other times he will receive them, and they only way to turn them off is through his phone’s settings, not in the wyze app.
One “bug” or limitation to be aware of is that he CAN create some automations, and those automations will affect your account as well. You can’t see ones he’s created, and he can’t see ones you’ve created. They can potentially conflict with each other and make things really confusing. So my advice would be to tell him NOT to create any automations (formerly rules) in his account for your shared cam(s).
