Hello! I’ve been enjoying Wyze for the last few years without having any issues, But as crime and people become crazier as days gone by, I’ve set up a camera in our Garage port outside as we’ve had some cars being broken into late night. I’ve noticed that the Wyze Cam Pan V3 also can be shared with users! which makes it amazing for our community in our small garage port being able to check in late night or download clips as needed if anything happens to any of our vehicles.
I do have a few questions regarding being able to give users certain access/restrictions to the camera? I’m currently the admin of the wyze camera and have full control over its functions/settings.
I did make a dummy invitation to my girlfriends phone and noticed she has access to being able to disable tracking, even turn on privacy mode! which disables the camera essentially. That has to be serious security issue if our neighbors/people who have access to the camera can simply disable it or even accidently by mistake when looking at the camera, I haven’t figured out if I can get notifications? If the camera gets disabled? or can I revoke certain users from being able to disable tracking/privacy mode?
I’d like to be able to have more control over what shared users can access/disable on the camera itself.
Can anyone direct me on how to change those function?
I’ve seen many posts over the past several years that complain about the lack of granularity in shared access to WYZE cameras. I’ve referenced and/or suggested that problem several times.
You, me, and many others have stated, sharing is a useless “feature” if the guest user can accidentally or purposely disable features or functionality of a camera they don’t own or administer.
All security related issues fall on deaf ears at WYZE which is why I’ve already started using TAPO cameras and may begin testing Reolink on the suggestion of other frustrated users.
The kind of granular control over (shared) users’ permissions that you’re asking about is not currently possible, but many Forum participants have voted (using the button above the initial post) and contributed their thoughts and requests to a long Wishlist topic that has been around for several years:
I would suggest adding your vote and input there.
I also agree with @pdannolfo’s to consider non-Wyze options depending on the timeline of your (and your shared users’) needs. Given the age of the topic I mentioned and Wyze’s lack of transparency with such matters, you may decide that it’s not worth the wait to see if or when they provide the features you’re seeking.
