I admit up front that I am a senior (who hates computers and technology) and the answer to my question is probably pretty simple, but I can’t figure it out.
Anyway, we have one Pan Cam now and it works great. So I purchased some new WYZE pan Cams from Amazon (On Prime Day) and I am having problems with the volume. is there a way to turn it up? When someone talks to me on one of the new WYZE Pan cams, I can barely hear them (they sound far away).
I tried calling the support line but they didn’t answer the phone(/gave up. Anyone here know where the volume adjust is on the WYZE Pan Cams, or should i send them back as defective?
First off, I heartily appreciate the disclaimer at the beginning of your post.
Since you mentioned that you purchased new cameras during Prime Day, I imagine that those are recent purchases of Cam Pan v3, even though your topic is tagged cam-pan-v1. (Please correct me if I’m wrong.) A few points:
The only place I’ve ever seen in the app to do any kind of volume adjustment on Cam Pan v3 is when I’m selecting it to use as an accessory chime for the “Cameras as Chime” feature of Video Doorbell v2. For some reason the Cam Pan v3 has a volume slider for its simulated doorbell sound (Cam OG does not).
My own experience with Cam Pan v3 audio is that it’s adequate but not great, so it meets my expectations for a camera at its price.
Cam v4 is marketed as having better audio, and I think it actually does. I think that’s one of the features Wyze actually improved with that model. I don’t know what your application/use case is for your Cam Pan v3s, so a non-moving camera may or may not meet your needs, but that might be something to consider in the future if you’re considering replacement. I picked up my Cam v4s during a sale a couple of months ago when both Cam v4 and Cam OG were on sale but the price difference was only $1 (US), and Amazon was matching the price on Wyze’s Web site. You might watch for something like that again.
If the problem is that you’re listening on your mobile device (phone or tablet) while someone is talking to a Cam Pan v3, then you can try turning up your mobile device’s volume, but that might not be enough to account for the Cam Pan v3’s audio (microphone) quality. With these cameras, the distance between the camera and whatever you want to hear really seems to make a lot of difference.
I don’t know if any of this is helpful or not, but I’m guessing that your cameras aren’t defective. I think Amazon has a fairly easy return policy, though, so if you want to try replacements I wouldn’t blame you. I personally like what I get from Cam Pan v3, but I’m not really using them for their audio capabilities.
Thanks for the reply. These are the cameras I got from Amazon: " WYZE Cam Pan v3 Indoor/Outdoor IP65-Rated 1080p Pan/Tilt/Zoom Wi-Fi Smart Home Security Camera with Color Night Vision, 2-Way Audio, Compatible with Alexa & Google Assistant, White, 2-Pack". I finally got ahold of someone on WYZE chat and their basic suggestions, after saying there’s NO volume control, is to unplug the camera for a few minutes (cut power), then to do a camera reset, then check/do/update all the firmwar. After that if it doesn’t work, then to return the cameras.
One thing to keep in mind is these cameras are mostly designed to pick up audio that is fairly close to them (obviously really loud stuff that is further away will get picked up). I think it is a privacy thing. Are your new ones further away from what you’re trying to hear than the old one? The “drop off” point can be fairly drastic from my experience.
Stupid question but you did remove the plastic protective film from the new cameras right? That would cover the microphone (and also make your image look worse).
You’re welcome. Since you actually have Cam Pan v3s, then re-tagging your topic with cam-pan-v3 might help it to get more visibility and attract other suggestions.
I think that’s reasonable. I don’t know what your expectations are for audio or if you require pan and tilt capabilities for your application, but something like Cam v4 still might be an option to consider if you plan to use 2-way audio frequently, and they’re usually slightly less expensive than Cam Pan v3.
I don’t think that’s a stupid question. It’s a good suggestion, and failed to consider that before.
To answer the questions: When I tried to post the question on the forum I got an edit that said I had to enter at least2 things (I forget what they were called). Never have to do that on any other forum. Anyway, I tried clicking on things that seemed related to my cameras., so if I chose something confusing or incorrect I apologize!.
And yes, I removed the plastic face cover.
No apology is necessary! The tags here can be confusing, and I get frustrated with the tagging system sometimes because certain tags can’t be applied in certain categories, which I sort of understand, but it sometimes makes tagging a post in a way that I think is appropriate somewhat difficult. I just want you and other users to be able to get relevant help, and I don’t think I could’ve provided much of that if you were actually using Cam Pan v1. Despite the tag, I clicked into it because of the title.
