Wait a minute Crease, if I remmeber correctly, you’ve got the Video Doorbell 2 version is this correct?
Thanks. If I can trouble you to confirm these questions for me would be appreciated please.
1] The doorbell 2 does NOT work with a battery?
2] The doorbell 2 can be powered with my current AC powered transformer as it powers both my video doorbell pro and the duo cam?
3] With the doorbell 2 you can view it on desktop pc browser [my.wyze.com/live] same as with my V3 cams?
4] It works with SD card?
5] Does it come with it’s own chime unit? If not, can it work with the wireless AC-powered chime which comes with my video doorbell pro?
You’re welcome, and it’s no trouble! I’ll answer as best I can:
- Correct. Video Doorbell v2 does not have a battery (though it does have an internal capacitor and will continue to send live video for several seconds after it’s disconnected from power; I discovered this accidentally). It’s intended to be wired to a home’s built-in chime and transformer.
- If you’re using the transformer you mentioned in another topic, then I would expect that to work. It appears to have output within the range Wyze recommends.
- I believe that’s the case, as that’s what the Help Center article I linked (in a previous post above) states. My Video Doorbell v2 is currently disconnected and sitting on my desk. I went and clipped it to my transformer with test leads and confirmed that I can see the feed in Web View.
- Yes, it can officially use a microSD card up to 256 GB. Note that the slot is on the side of the camera, not at the back (which is my understanding of the slot’s placement on Duo Cam Doorbell). Some users really don’t like this.
- Because it’s intended to work with a home’s built-in chime, it does not include a chime unit. It has Chime Controller, which is a device that you would wire into an existing compatible chime box that helps the doorbell camera to actuate the chime and provides some fuse-type protection to the camera. Since you bought a Duo Cam Doorbell that includes Wi-Fi Chime, you should be able to make that work with Video Doorbell v2. My understanding is that Chime Pro (included with Video Doorbell Pro) is specifically paired to its Video Doorbell Pro and acts as a wireless hub or gateway for the doorbell. Since you apparently don’t have an in-home chime that’s compatible with Video Doorbell v2, your other chime option might also be using your Cam v3s as accessory chimes via the Cameras as Chime feature.
First, thank you very much for making the effort to confirm and advise on all of this. So it seems the ‘chime’ situation would be the most challenging for me as this house’s native doorbell system has 2 doorbells, one at the front and another at the back door. Both doorbells are wired together so you never know if the person is at the front or back doors.
Sorry I am not clear on all the info you have given regarding the chime situation. But now knowing what I am dealing with, can you tell me if and what might be done to get a different chime at both doors with the doorbell 2 please?
I think I’d need a better understanding of what you already have installed (i.e., if there’s anything in terms of wiring, transformer(s), etc., that’s already part of the home), whether or not you plan/want to use any of that, what you’re considering purchasing, and what your ultimate goal is in order to answer that question with any detail. I don’t have a Wi-Fi Chime, but my understanding of its operation is that you can use it with any Wyze Cam and that it has a number of different built-in chime sounds, so I think you should be able to, for example, have it make one sound with a button press from your Duo Cam Doorbell and another sound whenever a Cam v3 detects motion, provided that you create the appropriate Automations to do that. With what you have on hand (if you still have the Video Doorbell Pro), you could probably have Duo Cam Doorbell make one sound and Video Doorbell Pro make another sound from the same Wi-Fi Chime.
There is the 2 wires available from the house wiring, but any doorbell wired to that will give the same ringer as with the back doorbell, since both share the same wiring so that can’t be used for this.
Which leaves either a doorbell with it’s own power adapter or having to use the transformer I had purchased and was using with both the doorbell pro and duo cam.
Both the duo cam and doorbell pro came with their own AC plugin chime box. Since the credit I got from wyze means I will need to purchase a wyze product, about the only device I am thinking which might work would be the doorbell 2 but seems now that the chime will be an issue?
My ultimate goal is not to have a doorbell anymore which works on battery power and I need to see it on my desktop pc and if I can view the recorded footage live on my desktop PC, then that will do it for me.
I already have another brand doorbell in mind which will give all of what I am seeking but again, I will need to purchase a wyze product to use the credit I got, and the question is “which” wyze product?
I don’t know if I can answer all your questions, because I still feel like I have only a partial understanding of what you’re dealing with. Looking at your earlier posts again, I’m getting the impression that your doorbell for your back door is still powered by the original transformer and ringing the buzzer-like (not ding-dong!) bell in your kitchen. I’m not sure what a wiring diagram for that would look like, because I don’t have any familiarity with those types of bells, but the picture and what you’ve described so far makes me think that this is an incompatible chime type.
That’s fine if it’s working for you and doing what you want so that you have no plans to change that part of your setup. I think the separate transformer you’ve been using for a front video doorbell is a reasonable solution, because I don’t recall your mentioning a rating or providing a description of the older transformer, and, again, without knowing that or having a better understanding of how your built-in system works, I’m not going to recommend hooking anything new up to that existing wiring.
I’m gonna say this again: I am not an electrician.
Yeah, I think I’m with you on that.
Right, but there’s an important difference:
- Video Doorbell Pro includes Chime Pro and is the only device that can connect to that particular chime.
- Duo Cam Doorbell includes Wi-Fi Chime[1], and that chime is supposed to work with all other Wyze doorbells and cameras (noted in a link in a previous post).
What would be the issue? I think you can power Video Doorbell v2 with the plug-in transformer you’ve been using (and I believe that you could optionally install the Chime Controller into the circuit just for its “fuse” capacity if you wanted), select its Doorbell Chime Type as None in its device settings, and then use Wi-Fi Chime with a Device & Service Trigger Automation as the chime for the Video Doorbell v2.
Off the top of my head, I don’t know why that wouldn’t work, but I’m also relying on Wyze’s information about Wi-Fi Chime to be accurate, because I don’t have any hands-on experience with tha particular product. Like I mentioned before, if you still have your Video Doorbell Pro available, you could hook it up as a test and then create an Automation to ring Wi-Fi Chime. I’d expect that you could do something similar with Video Doorbell v2.
If you think another brand’s product would suit your needs better, then by all means do that. I’m totally on board with trying to maximize the use of your Wyze credit, though, and I like staying within the same ecosystem for convenience when I can (i.e., forgoing the need to use a different app, etc.), plus I understand that one of your goals is to use Web View on the PC.
I hope this helps. I think the idea of switching to yet another doorbell product within just a few months would frustrate me, and I’d like to see you find a solution that meets your needs.
It does when you buy it directly from Wyze. Apparently Home Depot—and perhaps others—sell Duo Cam Doorbell without Wi-Fi Chime. ↩︎
It does help me to make my decision. I am sorry you wrote all of this but I appreciate it.
I’ve decided to go with the other brand doorbell which should meet all of my requirements.
Regarding this credit, I have to confirm a few things first with support but since I dont have recording on my garage v3 cam and my solar flood lights doesn;t work anymore, I might get this instead
I’m glad it was helpful. I appreciate the thought, though no apology is necessary if you derived some benefit from it.
If another brand meets your needs better, then do what’s best for you! I have some non-Wyze cameras that I like and that meet some use cases better than my Wyze Cams, but most of my cameras at this point are Wyze and do what I want them to do.
I don’t have hands-on experience with any of the Cam Floodlight models, but I’ve read good things about Cam Floodlight v2. One word of caution with that particular camera right now: There might be an issue with the latest firmware update, but this is yet to be determined. There’s an open topic about that, and I’ve been told that Wyze engineers are going to look into this latest firmware rollout for issues. I’m not saying to avoid the product, so please don’t misunderstand that. If I was buying one for myself right now, though, I’d consider postponing any installation or just try to stick with the shipped firmware until the latest update has been given the all-clear by other community members.
I appreciate your understanding and thank you for the heads up on the firmware. I had ordered it yesterday after speaking to Support.
If you’d like, since Wyze hasn’t asked me to send back the duo cam, I can give it to you, for free of course. You can try a new battery and if it should turn out to be an issue with the unit itself, you can return the battery so you don’t lose any money?
Only the warranty I am not sure will be valid since they had given a full refund?
The clarity of the duo is really great, plus being able to see packages clearly which may been left close up to or touching your door.
Everything is still in excellent condition, see pics below of everything while I was preparing to send back to Wyze and let me know?
That’s really cool of you to offer. Thank you!
On one hand, I’m tempted to accept so that I could have a Duo Cam Doorbell to play with and be better equipped to assist others who have issues with that particular model. I have an extra Removable Battery Pack so that’s not an issue.
On the other hand, I already have more video doorbells than I have exterior doors and just this week ended up sticking one in the garage to have an extra camera beside the garage door opener button. If I had a Duo Cam Doorbell, it would probably spend most of its time sitting in a box or or a shelf.
Since you already have the Wi-Fi Chime that came with your Duo Cam Doorbell, you can still potentially get some use out of that if you want audible alerts from other cameras (like if one of your Cam v3s detects motion or something). If I were in your situation, I’d be inclined to find a use for that if no one else wants to buy this from you. Hopefully someone who has a better use for a Duo Cam Doorbell than I do will do that and you can get some compensation for your trouble.
Thank you again for this unexpectedly generous offer!
No worries, makes total sense. Since I got full credit for it, I think it’s only fair that I offer it for free, anyone can simply pay the actual shipping cost for whichever method they should prefer.
Wondering if I should create another thread specifically for offering the cam for free so everyone on the forum can see it?
You could certainly do that. If you do, you could even post a link to that topic from this one. I was going to suggest just editing the title of this topic, but I don’t think you’re currently able to do that.
If you don’t get any takers and don’t want to play with the Wi-Fi Chime, I’ll keep it in mind.
fonxhende1, I would be extatic to pay shipping to have a wyze duo doorbell camera. I have a very small narrow front porch and it’s hard to see when a package has been delivered. I also get regular medication deliveries that often land up sitting in the AZ heat which ruins them. And none of the delivery people ever ring the doorbell. So this would be incredible. Is this offer still available?
Hey I’m sorry, I should be shipping out the unit tomorrow for someone, once he pays for the shipping today I will end that thread. He’s just waiting on me for the shipping quote.
It’s ok. I was just too slow I guess! It was really nice of you to offer it in the first place. Take care.
I was just paying it forward as there is a group of great guys here in this community, always very helpful.
I have mailed the duo cam to the person yesterday.
