SD card not found on my pan cam

Mine sort of started working 1 or 2 app updates ago. It still briefly says unable to play from SD but then it plays. Others have also reported an app update fixed it (either totally, or partially like mine). This was always suspected to be most likely app related as it didn’t break with a firmware update and my old phone with the 2.5 app never had the issue.

Thanks for your info Dave. It is a known good card as I took the card out of another pan3 camera, which was seen & working fine. I did use that card w the downgrade firmware on it. The camera shows that it did download to that firmware.

I’m believeing it is an issue w the cam’s card slot. I’ll just have to install the firmware update to a spare old pan3 that I have, & keep my fingers crossed it don’t break too.

BTW, I did download the sdcard formatter, thanks for that too  Being a computer tech for our county, yes I do understand how sectors do go bad.

I now have 2 Cam Pan 3’s that no longer recognize any card I put in it. doesn’t even make the card inserted sound when a card’s inserted.

My suggestion to ANYONE looking to buy a Cam Pan 3, DO NOT BUY CAM Pan V3 cameras!! Between the firmware & the hardware, I’ve been having nothing but issues w them. This is very frustrating & upsetting & costly to have yet another camera go down where the sd card is “not found,” doesn’t even make a noise when the card’s inserted. I’ve put cards that work find in the other cameras into it, thus there is NOT any issues w the cards. It’s the cameras sd slot that quits working! Which makes the camera useless for security since it doesn’t record events! ANd of course the cam’s out of warrenty!

BTW, I put the card that was in the pan 3 into a new pan 3. The new cam made the card inserted sound as well as shows video from the prior camera & accesses\record to just fine. The cameras do have the latest firmware.
The slots in these cam’s go bad…

Odd, I have 3 of them, two have been outside for 2 years through all new england seasons and are working fine. Maybe as has been suggested by I believe @crease before there are different revisions with some being more problematic. Though one of mine is a year newer than the other two, different mount etc.

I forget if I asked but are your cams mounted with the cam on top or “upside down”? I did have an issue with one mounted upside down where water got in, but not with the SD card slot (I had put white electrical tape over the SD card slot and power button though). I also put silicone grease on the rubber of the plug that goes into the bottom of the camera to protect that part.

The only spot I didn’t account for is around the rotating base, apparently not as weathertight as it should be.

Rather than fiddle around and try to make a cover, I just settled for having it right side up and no further issues.

I’ve got 8 Pan 3’s, w now 2 w card slots not working. My older Pan 2’s are still working wonderly, go figure! Prob made better back then. I spose could well be cuz they’re diff versions. But now I have 2 useless “security” cams. would be nice to know how many others this has happened to.

I don’t know if these 2 are the oldest of the pan 3’s. I have 2 other pan 3’s around the tree, next to this 1 that died today, & “so far” their card slots are working fine. The cameras are upright, not upside down.

In the app under camera info it will tell you the activation date, in case you’re curious. Might expose some sort of pattern. Others have had an issue with their SD cards and suspect it is somehow software/firmware related and only on certain manufacturing dates of the cams (and was not present when they were new). If that’s the case, maybe your cams are affected by that same combination. I know for a while the Panv3s had an issue loading video from the “events” tab and that was related to the app, nothing to do with hardware, and it manifested a bit differently in different ages of cams. So who knows, maybe this is another of those quirks.

Not that any of that helps you. I mean, if you’re going to take them down anyway, try the cleaning procedure I mentioned, then put them in a bag of rice for 24-48 hours. My one that kept rebooting and crashing due to moisture infiltration was completely cured by rice (though I now just use it as a spare, I don’t 100% trust it, but when I travelled for a few days a while back it was perfectly fine inside watching my house).

Activation date of the 1st cam was 2-3-23. 5-3-23 on the 1 that malfunctioned today. I’ve got another dated 8-23, & 9-23. I hope those aren’t next!
My pan 2’s act date was 2022, & I’ve never had any issues w them. Never even had to replace their cards.

I do appreciate your batting this around w me. Def not moisture. I live in Cali & we’ve been having low 80’s & dry. Glad yours is working perfectly again after getting out the moisture.

I have two from July 2023 and one from March 2024. One of the July 2023 is my spare now, the other two have been outside and recording nonstop since activation.
