Adjusted Bluetooth wake-up function (Bluetooth connection no longer triggers wake-up; app entering the configuration page or primary account binding will trigger wake-up).
Modified body composition display settings on the scale (Fat percentage and muscle mass are now optional but maintain their order).
Updated WiFi firmware SDK.
Fixed an issue where the fat percentage difference was incorrect when displayed as a separate page.
Fixed an occasional reset issue.
Adjusted Bluetooth speed from 2M to 1M to improve anti-interference performance.
Changed connection latency from 0 to 2 to enhance interference resistance (OTA update time increased by approximately 1-2 minutes).
Adjusted WiFi firmware MSS to improve WiFi OTA success rate.
I’d love to do this, but the Scale Ultra isn’t listed as an option in the Beta program yet. (Account Tab → About → Beta Program) So we can’t even approve it to get beta firmware at all. Nobody can test this yet as of this writing.
Please add the Scale Ultra to the Beta program in the app and let us know when we can add it into beta to test the firmware for you.
So how exactly are we supposed to beta test this firmware if you guys aren’t making it available to install? I can’t enroll it under Account/About/Beta Program. What gives???
The home page for the scale has changed. In the original release when you opened the page there were two status symbols at the top of the page–Bluetooth and wifi. Within a second or two bluetooth would change to “Connected”. Within another second or so the wifi symbol would change to “Connected”. All seemed to work as expected since 11-1-2024.
beta 1.1.8 changed this slightly. Now the Bluetooth connects as expected but the wifi does not. I did not expect this and I proceeded to spend an hour or so troubleshooting until I figured out that the batteries were going dead. BTW, the batteries lasted 5+ months. (note: there was no warning from the app that the batteries were going dead. Bluetooth still showed “Connected”).
Story takes a twist here. I replaced the batteries. I was out of 1.5v alkalines so I pulled 4 ELB Gold pros 1.2v rechargeables off the charger. Fired up the app and got an immediate warning that my “Batteries were low”. Bluetooth said it was connected but wifi was not. No matter what I tried wifi would not connect. It would appear that the Ultra needs the additional voltage. I have seen this from time to time and that’s why I usually have some alkalines on hand. I have some medical devices that insist on the 1.5v alkaline.
Installed new 1.5 alkalines. App fired up with no warnings except Bluetooth said connected but wifi did not. Hmmmmm. Watched it for a few minutes. No change. Then I clicked on device info and all the parameters were filled in. Clicked back and this time the wifi was connected. I repeated this a few times, same results. Then it occurred to me that wyze had probably done some changes to the battery management system. When you open it initially only connects Bluetooth. It only connects the wifi if it feels it’s needed (device info, etc).
Bottom line:
Everything is back to normal.
The Ultra does not like 1.2v rechargebles. (I did a cursory search on wyze support and there was no disclaimer for rechargeables).
Low battery warning could use some fine tuning. The replaced batteries were the original, out of the box, no names.
Unless someone has other ideas I believe Wyze is trying to improve battery life.
Final thought. The ability to change the wifi from the app is as it should be. When I first saw the wifi issue it only took a minute to change to a different AP. It made no difference so I did not spend any more time chasing a wifi issue. Wyze should make this a requirement for all new products and when possible existing products.
Oh yeah, I have owned 5 smart scales and none of them like 1.2V rechargeable batteries. Some of them will work okay for a short time, and most of them will measure weight okay, but they will often fail on the BIA measurements because the electricity it puts out is so much weaker that it can’t get a valid or reliable BIA measurement with the weaker batteries and would only save my weight. It drove me crazy.
I bought some 1.5V rechargeable AA’s from Amazon for my old VR controllers and found they work great with the Scale Ultra as well. Took a bit of searching because apparently rechargeables usually come in the 1.2V flavor, but I got these specifically because they were 1.5V. They are “bump” brand and charge via USB-C.
Edit: apparently battery indicators don’t display correctly with rechargeables on most devices. It’ll show full battery and then it’ll just die without warning when it runs out of juice, or it’ll show “low battery” right before it dies, if you’re lucky.
